ORDINANCE NO. 85b <br />AN ORDINANCE DECLARING STAGNANT WATER A NUISANCE <br />AND PROVIDING FOR THE ABATEMENT THEREOF <br />WHEREAS, extensive rain in the past and excessive rain <br />expected this year has resulted and will result in the future <br />in large areas of standing water; and <br />WHEREAS, standing water, if not properly treated, is a <br />primary breeding area for mosquitoesand other annoying insects; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the existence of mosquitoes in large numbers is <br />particularly annoying, as well as dangerous to the health of <br />the residents; and <br />WHEREAS, the foregoing conditions are particularly present <br />in industrial and commercial property, and on vacant tracts of <br />land within the entire Village; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED, by the President and Board of <br />Trustees of. the Village of Elk Grove Village, counties of Cook and <br />DuPage, as follows: <br />Section 1: That Chapter 23, Miscellaneous Regulations, <br />be and the same is hereby amended by adding thereto the following: <br />Article 12. Stagnant Water <br />23.1201. Definitions. The terms"stagnant water" or "standing <br />water" shall mean any accumulation of water, including but not <br />limited to, ponds, drainage ditches,basins or low surface level <br />areas in which water is likely to accumulate and not drain freely. <br />23.1202. It is hereby declared a nuisance to permit standing <br />or stagnant water to remain upon any industrial or comm rcially <br />zoned property within the Village or upon vacant property located <br />
