Ordinance No. 15 <br />AN ORDINANCE establishing a <br />Police Department. <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the President and Board of Trustees of the <br />Village of Elk Grove Village. Cook County. Illinois,. <br />Section 1„ Creation. There is hereby created a Police Department.. <br />an executive department of the Village. The Police Department shall consist <br />of the Village Marshal who shall be the Chief of Police;, and such other member,; <br />as may be provided for from time to time by the President and Board of <br />Trustees. <br />Section 2. Duties. It shall be the duty of the members of the Police <br />Departmenr to see to the enforcement of all ordinances of the village, of all <br />statutes effective in the village and to preserve order and prevent infractions <br />of the law and to arrest violators thereof. Every member of the Police <br />Department is hereby declared to be a conservator of the peace. <br />Section 3. Office of the Chief Created. There is hereby created the <br />office of Police Chief. The Chief shall be appointed by the President and <br />Board of Trustees. <br />Section 4. Duties of Chief. The Chief of Police shall be keeper of the <br />village jail, and shall have custody of all persons incarcerated therein. Ile <br />shall keep such records and make such reports concerning the activities of <br />his department as may be required by statute or ordinance. The Chief shall <br />be responsible for the performance by the Police Departments of all its function <br />and all persons who are members of the Department shall serve subject to <br />the orders of the Chief of Police. <br />Section 5. Stolen property - custody of, The Chief of Police shall be <br />custodian of all lost, abandoned or stolen pr,3perty in the Village. <br />Section 6. Serving Processes. The Chief of Police shall be authorized <br />to serve writs, summons, and other processes, but no patrolman shall seri=c <br />
