RESOLUTION NO. 99-72 <br /> A RESOLUT1014 OPPOSING THE "PROPERTY TAX FREEZE"LEGISLATION BEFORE THE <br /> GENERAL ASSEMBLY <br /> WHEREAS, the State of Illinois, 77th General Assembly has before it <br /> legislation to freeze the real and personal property tax levy at the 1972 <br /> level , and <br /> WHEREAS, the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Elk Grove <br /> Village is cognizant that the property tax is a burden to every taxpayer, and <br /> WHEREAS , the President and Board of Trustees has succeeded in reducing <br /> existing property taxes for operations through responsible administration of <br /> local municipal services, and <br /> WHEREAS, the proposed legislation would give some relief to our taxpayers, <br /> but growing communities, such as Ell; Grove Village would suffer a reduction in <br /> the levels of service received, and <br /> WHEREAS, a Tax Freeze would impose upon local governments undue hardship <br /> by denying municipalities the benef' t of growth and by confiscating normal <br /> revenue needed to meet ordinary expenses of a growing community, and <br /> WHEREAS, local government can and does exercise responsible judgement in <br /> keeping taxes down while not impairing the necessary and ordinary operation <br /> of local government o►- jeopordizing the public safety, health or welfare of <br /> its property owners and citizens. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE , BE IT RESOLVED by the President and Board of Trustees <br /> of the Village of Elk Grove Village , Counties of Cook and DUPage, State of <br /> Illinois, that it does hereby oppose! the Property Tax Freeze legislation <br /> now before the General Assembly. <br /> PASSED this 28th day of _ November 1972. <br /> APPROVED this 28th day of_ November 1972 <br /> Charles J .
