RESOLUTION NO. 16-07 <br />A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF PACE AND FUNDING TO SUPPORT <br />MOVING BEYOND CONGESTION <br />WHEREAS, Pace, the suburban Bus Division of the Regional Transportation <br />Authority, has provided much-needed transportation services to our suburban <br />communities since 1984; and <br />WHEREAS, Pace, has been responsive to commuters' needs with partnerships <br />and innovative programs; and <br />WHEREAS, Pace receives the equivalent of only 1/16 of a cent in sales tax <br />region -wide; and <br />WHEREAS, Pace's public funding has not kept pace with its expenses and <br />allows no ability for expansion of service into growing areas; and <br />WHEREAS, Pace has a 2007 budget deficit of $23 million in its suburban service <br />budget and $81 million in its regional ADA paratransit service budget; and <br />WHEREAS, the RTA's Moving Beyond Congestion campaign calls for $400 <br />million in new annual operating funds and $10 billion in capital funding over five years <br />to support the region's public transit needs; and <br />WHEREAS, we value the service Pace provides. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Board of <br />Trustees of the Village of Elk Grove Village, Cook and DuPage Counties of <br />Illinois, as follows: <br />Section 1: That we encourage the Illinois General Assembly to provide Pace the <br />funding necessary to maintain current service and expand into currently unserved areas. <br />11 <br />
