RESOLUTION NO. 66-09 <br /> A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE COMMUNITY ACCESS PRESERVATION ACT <br /> WHEREAS, public, educational and government channels (aka PEG channels) such as <br /> EGTV Channel 6 are important to our community because they provide an important outlet for <br /> programming about our community that is available nowhere else, and <br /> WHEREAS, HR-3)745, the Community Access Preservation Act has been introduced in <br /> Congress to provide targeted changes to the Cable Act to help resolve the following issues: <br /> Allowin- PEG fees to be used for any PEG-related purposes; <br /> Requirin=g PEG.channels to be carried in the same manner as local broadcast <br /> channels; <br /> Requiring the FCC to study the effect state video franchise laws have had on PEG <br /> channels, and requiring operators to provide the greater of the support required under <br /> state laws, or the support historically provided for PEG; and <br /> Making cable television-related laws and regulations applicable to all landline video <br /> providers; and <br /> WHEREAS, the problems that the bill seeks to address are immediate, real and <br /> significant, and threaten the survival of PEG channels here and elsewhere; and <br /> WHEREAS, Congress has recognized the severity of the challenges facing PEG in <br /> hearings held over the last year and a half. and'members have been urging the FCC to take action <br /> to protect PEG: and <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Board of Trustees of the <br /> Village of Elk Grove Village, Counties of Cook and DuPage. Illinois as follows: <br /> Section 1: That the Mayor and Board of Trustees expresses its unfailing support of the <br /> Community Access Preservation Act, and <br /> Section 2: That the Mayor and Board of Trustees encourage our U.S. Representatives <br /> and Senators to co-sponsor this important piece of legislation. <br />
