MINUTES OF BOARD MEETING
R
ELK GROVE FIREMEN'S PENSION FUND
DECEMBER 15, 1987
A Special meeting of the Firemen's Pension Fund was held on Tuesday, December 15,
tin
1987 in the Village Conferance Room 901 Wellington Avenue. The meeting was called
to order by President Walter J. Kriesant at 9:56 A.M. The President stated the
meeting had been requested by Chief Charles B. Henrici in regards to a doctors
report on William Clifford Jr.
ROLL CALL
On Roll Call the following members were present: Walter J. Kriesant, Patricia S.
Smith, George C. Coney, Charles B. Henrici, Harvey R. Speiden, and Joseph Gardner
III.
C. Henrici reported to the Board the Police & Fire Commission was requesting a
decision on the Pension Board's position on accepting William Clifford Jr. into
the Firemen's Pension Fund. Because W. Clifford had sustained a severe leg injury
approximately lz years ago Chief C. Henrici had requested the Commission send him
to a 2nd doctor for an extensive exam. To make sure that the leg injury would not
bea problem. The commission sent him to E. Semerad M.D., an orthopedic. physician.
The report received indicated no problem with the leg but a condition with the
spine was discovered that may indicate a problem in the future. Approximately 1%
of the population has this problem. Apparently the result of having it at birth.
At the present time he has no problems with it. Because he already is employed-by
the Village the commission is willing to hire him but because of the impact on the
Firemen's Pension Fund they are willing to adhere to whatever decision the Pension
Board would make.
A discussion followed : covering W. Clifford's diagnosis with former Fund member
Dennis Gorden's condition, H. Speiden's conversations with doctors at the hospital
about W. Clifford's condition. They stating this man should be doing no heavy
lifting even now.
The Board concluded:
1.) Get a complete report from Dr. Collins on W. Clifford.
2.) Check the files for D. Gorden's condition and disposition.
3.) Have Dr. Moore review the reports and give his opinion.
4.) Check W. Clifford's personel file to see if he's been off on any back
associated problems.
ADJOURNMENT
Motion by H. Speiden, seconded by P. Smith to adjourn. Motion passed unanimously.
Meeting adjourned at 10:35 A.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Joseph Gardner III, Secretary
