AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 2131, GRANTING A SPECIAL
USE PERMIT TO THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION OF THE STATE
OF ILLINOIS TO OPERATE A GOVERNMENTAL FACILITY IN A R-3
RESIDENTIAL ZONED DISTRICT FOR PROPERTY LOCATED AT THE
SOUTHEAST CORNER OF BIESTERFIELD ROAD AND INTERSTATE 290
WHEREAS, The State of Illinois, Department of Transportation
(IDOT) desires to construct an additional Salt Storage Dome
facility at the southeast corner of Biesterfield Road and
Interstate 290 to provide sufficient salt and material
necessary to minimize and alleviate hazardous road conditions;
and
WHEREAS, Said dome will be constructed to Village building
codes; and
WHEREAS, A need for additional salt storage to combat winter
storms was evidenced during the winter of 1999 when salt
supplies were diminished in the existing salt storage dome; and
WHEREAS, The Village and IDOT have a joint use agreement
allowing the Village to utilize the salt dome(s) at the
aforementioned facility to combat winter snow storms; and
WHEREAS, The additional salt storage dome will benefit the
residents and businesses of the Village by increasing the
capacity of salt stored for Village snow fighting efforts.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the President and Board of
Trustees.of the Village of Elk Grove Village, Counties of Cook
and DUPage, Illinois as follows:
Section 1: That the existing Special Use Permit adopted
pursuant to Ordinance No. 2131 passed and approved on October
23, 1990 is hereby amended by granting a variation of the
Zoning Ordinance to allow for the construction of a 136 foot
diameter by 70 foot tall salt storage dome which becomes a
second accessory structure on one residential lot and exceeds
the 35 feet maximum height requirement in the R-3 zoning
district.
Section 2: That this Ordinance shall be in full force and
effect from and after its passage and approval according to
law.
