HomeMy WebLinkAboutORDINANCE - 2598 - 10/14/1997 - YOUTH COMMISSION, ESTABLISHORDINANCE NO. 2598 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 2 BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS, OF THE VILLAGE CODE BY ADDING THERETO A NEW CHAPTER CREATING AND ESTABLISHING A YOUTH COMMISSION IN THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE WHEREAS, a Youth Committee has previously been established to facilitate the inter -relationship between the elected officials of the Village and the youth and students of the Village; and WHEREAS, it is deemed to be in the best interest of the Village to more formalize this inter -relationship by the establishment of a permanent Youth Commission; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Elk Grove Village, Counties of Cook and DuPage, Illinois as follows: Section 1: That Title 2, Boards and Commissions, of the Village Code be and the same as is hereby amended by adding thereto a new Chapter which shall read as follows: Chapter 13 YOUTH COMMISSION 2-13-1: COMMISSION CREATED; MEMBERSHIP; APPOINTMENT;TERMS: There is hereby established a Youth Commission which shall consist of nine (9) members, two of whom shall be Village Trustees; two of whom shall be adult residents of the Village; and five of whom shall be of students representing Elk Grove Village High School, Conant High School, Mead Junior High, Grove Junior High, and Queen of the Rosary schools. The members shall be appointed by the Village President with the consent of the Board of Trustees. The Trustee members shall serve a term of two (2) years commencing May 1, 1997 and be appointed every two (2) years thereafter. The two adult members shall serve four (4) year terms with the exception that the initial terms shall be for two (2) years for one adult and (4) years for the second adult, retroactively commencing May 1, 1997, it being the purpose to stagger the terms of the two adult members. The student members shall serve for a term of one (1) year commencing May 1 of each year. 2-13-2: ORGANIZATION: The Commission shall have a chairperson and secretary, which position shall be filled by the Trustee members of the Commission, and who shall be appointed by the Village President with the consent of the Board of Trustees. 2-13-3: FUNCTION: MEETINGS: The Youth Commission shall meet once every other month or such additional times as is agreed upon by the Commission. The purpose and function of the Youth Commission is to promote youth programs and youth participation within the Village of Elk Grove Village. 2-13-4: COMPENSATION: No member shall receive compensation for any service performed. Section 2: That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval according to law.
