Mayor Johnson proposed cross -training the crossing guards for additional duties and ensuring they receive their regular pay so that they are available when school does begin. Village Manager Rummel expressed that there would be legal concerns if crossing guards were paid without showing up to work. The Board asked if alternate duties could be found for crossing guards during their regularly scheduled shifts. Police Chief Walsh indicated that other work could be found for crossing guards who wanted to continue to work. The Board discussed that not all crossing guards may want to do alternate work, and whether they would qualify for unemployment if laid off. The consensus of the Board was to offer alternate work to the crossing guards. The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 pm. I* -
