HomeMy WebLinkAboutORDINANCE - 2382 - 7/26/1994 - FIRE DEPARTMENTORDINANCE NO. 2382 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 5, CHAPTER 1, FIRE DEPARTMENT, OF THE VILLAGE CODE BY CREATING THE APPOINTED POSITION OF CAPTAIN OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE WHEREAS, the Village of Elk Grove Village is a Home Rule Municipality as set forth and defined by the Constitution of the State of Illinois; and WHEREAS, the Village, as a Home Rule Municipality, is entitled to enact legislation pertaining to its government and affairs and has such legislative authority as set forth in the Constitution of the State of Illinois; and WHEREAS, the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Elk Grove Village, in the exercise of its Home Rule authority, is desirous of establishing the appointed position of Captain in the Fire Department. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Elk Grove Village, Counties of Cook and Dupage, Illinois as follows: Section 1: That Section 5-1-1: DEPARTMENT ESTABLISHED of the Village Code be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows: 5-1-1: DEPARTMENT ESTABLISHED: There is hereby created and established a Fire Department, an operating Department of the Village. The Fire Department shall. consist of such full-time and part-time personnel and such other personnel as may be provided by the President and Board of Trustees. The President and Board of Trustees shall, from time to time, establish a list of authorized positions which shall be set forth in The Classification Plan as referenced and established in Section 1-7-5 of this Code. Section 2: That Section 5-1-3 of the Village Code be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows: 5-1-3: DEPUTY FIRE CHIEF/ASSISTANT FIRE CHIEF/ FIRE CAPTAIN A. Deputy Fire Chief: The Deputy Fire Chief shall be appointed by the Fire Chief with the approval of the Village Manager. The Deputy Fire Chief shall perform such duties heretofore designated for the Fire Chief, in the absence of the Fire Chief, and shall perform such other duties as may be assigned him by the Fire Chief, The Deputy Fire Chief shall retain his rank and status while serving as Deputy Fire Chief and shall revert to such rank and status when the appointment to the Deputy Fire Chief position has ended, as determined by the Fire Chief. B. Assistant Fire Chief: The Assistant Fire Chief shall be appointed by the Fire Chief with the approval of the Village Manager. The Assistant Fire Chief shall perform such duties and assignments as directed by the Fire Chief or any Deputy Fire Chief. The Assistant Fire Chief shall retain his rank and status while serving as Assistant Fire Chief and shall revert to such rank and status when the appointment to the Assistant Fire Chief position has ended, as determined by the Fire Chief. C. Fire Captain: The Fire Captain shall be appointed by the Fire Chief with the approval of the Village Manager. The Fire Captain shall perform such duties and assignments as directed by the Fire Chief, any Deputy Fire Chief or any Assistant Fire Chief. The Fire Captain shall retain his rank and status while serving as Fire Captain and shall revert to such rank and status when the appointment to the Fire Captain position has ended, as determined by the Fire Chief. Section 3: The current Fire Captain List dated October 26, 1992 is hereby declared null and void. Section 4: That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval according to law. VOTE: AYES: 6 PASSED this 26th APPROVED this 26th ATTEST: Patricia S.
