AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ARTICLE II, GARBAGE AND REFUSE, OF
CHAPTER 16 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE BY ESTABLISHING THEREIN
REGULATIONS FOR THE VILLAGE'S RECYCLING PROGRAM
BE IT ORDAINED by the President and Board of Trustees of the
Village of Elk Grove Village, Counties of Cook and DuPage, Illinois
as follows:
Section 1: That Article II, Garbage and Refuse, of Chapter 16
of the Municipal Code be amended by renumbering the present Section
16.206 Penalty, to 16.207 and adding thereto a new Section 16.206
which shall read as follows:
16.206 Recycling) The owner or occupant of each residence
or residential unit in the Village shall cooperate and com-
ply with the Village's recycling program. All recyclable
materials shall.be separated from other solid waste, grouped
together by like materials and placed in specifically desig-
nated containers for collection according to the collection
schedule of the Village. Recyclable materials, as herein
defined, shall include newspapers, glass, aluminum, bi-metal
(tin), plastic (HDPE, PET), or such other materials as is
determined by the Village.
Owners or operators of multi -family dwellings must provide
separate containers for recyclable materials in conjunction
with the Village's recycling program in or outside of the
residential units and must notify tenants of the Village's
recycling program.
All recyclable materials collected and deposited as provided
in this Section shall be the property of the Village and it
shall be unlawful for any individual to remove or confiscate
any recyclable materials placed in designated containers.
Section 2: Any person, firm or corporation violating any of
the provisions of this Ordinance shall be fined not less than Ten
($10.00) Dollars nor more than Five Hundred ($500.00) Dollars for
each. offense and a separate offense shall be deemed committed on
each day during or on which a violation occurs or continues to
exist.
Section 3: That the Village Clerk is hereby authorizes: to
publish this Ordinance in pamphlet form.
Section 4: That this Ordinance shall be in full force and ef-
fect from and after its passage, approval and publication according
to law.
