A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF ILLINOIS AND THE GREATER WOODFIELD
TRAVEL AND TOURISM INDUSTRIES
WHEREAS, the Village of Elk Grove Village supports the sales and
marketing efforts of the Greater Woodfield and State of Illinois tourism industries;
and
WHEREAS, our local hotel and lodging operations, restaurants, retail
outlets and attractions benefit from the tourism and travel dollars generated
through the efforts of our local hospitality industry and the Greater Woodfield
Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Illinois Bureau of Tourism, and
WHEREAS, the Greater Woodfield tourism economy already has suffered
a loss of $105 million in Visitor spending, nearly $4 million in State and Local
Taxes and 1,296 jobs, in the last three years; and
WHEREAS, it is projected that the local Greater Woodfield economy will
lose an additional $66 million in Visitor Spending and 947 jobs if the proposed cut
in state funding is allowed to stand; and
WHEREAS, the Illinois Tourism Industry has generated $22 billion in
Visitor Spending annually and is one of the State's top growth industries,
providing $1.5 billion annually in state and local taxes; and
WHEREAS, The Corporate Authorities of the Village of Elk Grove Village,
on behalf of our citizens and business community deem it essential to our
economic growth and stability to promote the Greater Woodfield area as a
destination for ovemight stays for groups, and business and leisure travelers.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Board of
Trustees of the Village of Elk Grove Village, Counties of Cook and DuPage,
Illinois as follows:
Section 1: That the Village of Elk Grove Village, its citizens and business
community urges Illinois Govemor Rod Blagojevich and the Illinois General
Assembly to demonstrate support for the tourism industry of the State of Illinois
and the Greater Woodfield region by continuing to maintain the state tourism
budget at the 2004 fiscal level until it becomes economically feasible to increase
it.
Section 2: That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and
after its passage and approval according to law.
