AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 23 MISCELLANEOUS
REGULATIONS OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE BY ADDING
THERETO A NEW ARTICLE ENTITLED "TRUANCY"
WHEREAS, the President and Board of Trustees of the Village
of Elk Grove Village have been advised that there is a growing
problem of chronic absenteeism from school by students under
the age of 18, and that in many instances police records show
that persons under the age of 18 who have been involved in commit-
ting offenses of vandalism, drug abuse, alcohol consumption
and disorderly conduct have also been guilty of truancy in viola-
tion of State laws regarding compulsory school attendance; and
WHEREAS, the current procedures provided in the Illinois
School Code and the Juvenile Court Act for handling problems
of truancy have for the most part proved ineffective in combating
such absenteeism from school.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the President and Board
of Trustees of the Village of Elk Grove Village, an Illinois
Home Rule Municipality, Counties of Cook and DuPage, Illinois,
as follows:
Section 1: That Chapter 23, Miscellaneous Regulations

or valid cause.
b. A valid cause for absence from school shall
