AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 5, POLICE DEPARTMENT
AND CHAPTER 6, FIRE DEPARTMENT OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE
THEREBY ESTABLISHING POLICIES FOR THE REDUCTION I14
THE WORK FORCE FOR THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS
OF THE VILLAGE
WHEREAS, the Village of Elk Grove Village is a Home
Rule Municipality as set forth and defined in the Constitution
of the State of Illinois; and
WHEREAS, the Village of Elk Grove Village may, as a
Home Rule Municipality, enact such legislation pertaining to
its government and affairs as required even when same are
contrary to or not specifically authorized by State Statute; and
WHEREAS, the Village of Elk Grove Village has adopted
and currently utilizes a Wage and Salary Plan wherein all
employees receive compensation based on merit and performance; and
WHEREAS, the President and Board of Trustees of the
Village of Elk Grove Village deem it fitting to treat any
reduction in the work force with respect to sworn officers of
the Police and Fire Department of the Village in essentially the
same manner as they are treated with respect to compensation
and in keeping with the policies relating to work force reductions
effecting the other Departments of the Village;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED, by the President and
Board of Trustees of the Village of Elk Grove Village, Counties
of Cook and DuPage, Illinois as follows:
Section 1: That Chapter 5, The Police Department of
the Municipal Code of the Village of Elk Grove Village be and
the same is hereby amended by adding thereto the following paragraph:
5.013 Reduction in Work Force: Any reduction in
the number of employees in the Police Depart-
ment, other than a discharge for cause as set
forth in Sec. 5.005, shall be done in accordance
with Sec. 6.5 Reduction in Work Force of the
Personnel Rules and Regulations of the Village
of Elk Grove Village.
Section 2: That Chapter 6, Fire Department and Code
of the Municipal Code of the Village of Elk Grove Village be
and the same is hereby amended by adding thereto the following
paragraph:
6.122 Reduction in Work Force: Any reduction in
the number of employees in the Fire Department,
other than a discharge for cause as set forth
in Sec. 6.113, shall be done in accordance with
Sec. 6.5 Reduction in Work Force of the Personnel
Rules and Regulations of the Village of Elk
Grove Village.
Section 3: That this Ordinance shall be in full force
and effect from and after its passage and approval according to
law.
