HomeMy WebLinkAboutORDINANCE - 1272 - 1/23/1979 - VILLAGE CLERK/REFERENDUMORDINANCE NO. 1272 AN ORDINANCE CALLING FOR A PUBLIC REFERENDUM ON THE QUESTION OF WHETHER THE OFFICE OF THE VILLAGE CLERIC SHALL BE MADE AN APPOINTED POSITION BY THE VILLAGE PRESIDENT SUBJECT TO THE CONCURRENCE OF THE VILLAGE BOARD INSTEAD OF AN ELECTED OFFICE WHEREAS, the President and Board of Trustees of Elk Grove Village, at a regularly scheduled Village Board Meeting held on January 9, 1979, considered the issue of whether the Office of Village Clerk should be made an appointed position instead of an elected office; and WHEREAS, the President and Board of Trustees of the Village considered it to be in the best interests of the Village that said question be submitted to the voters in the form of a referendum at the next regularly scheduled election to be held within the Village; and WHEREAS, said referendum is authorized by Article VII, Section 6F, of the Constitution of the State of Illinois, as the Village of Elk Grove Village is a home rule municipality as defined and established by said Constitution; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Elk Grove Village, Counties of Cook and Du Page, Illinois, in the exercise of its home rule authority, as follows: Section 1: That there shall be submitted to the voters of the Village of Elk Grove Village at the next regularly scheduled election to be held on April 17, 1979, the following question: "Shall the Office of the Village Clerk of the Village of Elk Grove Village, Cook County, Illinois, be made an appointed position, by the Village President, with the advice and consent of the Board of Trustees, instead of an elected office? Section 2: That said referendum shall be made a part of the ballot of the next regularly scheduled election and said referendum shall be conducted in the same manner and form as said regular election, as provided by law. r Section 3: That the results of said referendum shall be canvassed in the manner provided by law.
