AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 4-A, POSITION CLASSIFICATION
AND SALARY PLAN, AND CHAPTER 5, POLICE DEPARTMENT, OF THE
MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
WHEREAS, The Village of Elk Grove Village is a Home Rule
Municipality as authorized and set forth in the Constitution
of the State of Illinois +s such is authorized to enact
certain legislation pertaining to its local government affairs;
and
WHEREAS, the President and Board of Trustees does hereby
determine that it is empowered by the Constitution of the State
of Illinois to provide for two (2) Division Commander positions
within the Police Department of the Village, said positions to
be appointed by the Chief of Police;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the President and Board
of Trustees of the Village of Elk Grove Village, Cook and
DuPage Counties, Illinois, in the exercise of its Home Rule
authority, as follows:
SECTION 1: That the Municipal Code of the Village of
Elk Grove Village Chapter 4-A entitled "Position Classification
and Salary Plan", Article 4A.103 is hereby amended to include
the following:

SECTION 2: That Section 5.001 of Chapter 5 of the
Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
5.001 Creation.) There is hereby created a Police
Department, an executive department of the Village. The
Police Department shall consist of the following full-
time personnel, and such other personnel as may be provided
from time to time by the President and Board of Trustees,
as follows:
One (1) Chief of Police
Two (2) Division Commanders
Three (3) Lieutenants
Three (3) Inactive Lieutenants
Nine (9) Sergeants
Fifty-three (53) Police Officers
SECTION 3: That Section 5.003 of the Municipal Code
is hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 5.003 There is hereby created the office of Police
Chief. The Chief shall be appointed by the President by and
with the consent of the Board of Trustees, provided that if
the person appointed Chief was at the time of such promotion
a member of the Department, he shall retain his status and
rank while serving as Chief and shall revert to such status
and rank when his term as Chief has ended.
There is also created two positions of Division Commander
who are to be appointed by the Chief of Police. A Division
Commander shall retain his rank and status while serving as
Division Commander and shall revert to such rank and status
when his term of Division Commander has ended.
SECTION 4: Section 5.004 of the Municipal Code is
hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 5.004 Appointments and Promotions: Appointments
to and promotions within the Police Department other than to
the Office of Chief and the position of Division Commander shall

be made by the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners in the
manner provided by law.
SECTION 5: This ordinance shall be in full force
and effect from and after its passage and approval according
to law.
