AN OF.DIN'1NCE AMENDING THE MUNICIPAL CODE 07:' ELK GROVE VILLAGE, CHP-,PTE1z 16,
ARTICLE II, GARBAGE AND P.Ei'USE
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the President and Board of Trustees of
the Village of Elk Grove Village, Counties of Cook and DuPage, Illinois:
Section 1. That Chapter 16, Article IT of. the Municipal Code of Elk
Grove Villabe be and is amended to read as follows:
16.201. Recept.acle,Required)
It shall be the responsibility of every owner or his agent or
occupant of any house, building or apartment in the Village where
vegetable, food and matter are prepared, served or produced to maintain
in good order and repair suitable containers for use as receptacles for
domestic garbage, paper, ashes, tin cans, bottles and other refuse.
Newspapers may be placed outside containers if bound securely into
bundles weighing no more than eighty (60) pounds per bundle.
Discarded furniture, furnishings, fixtures and appliances of all
kinds which are too large to be placed in containers shall be placed
next to the refuse containe.c in an orderly fashion.
Trees, tree branches, 'crush, plant stalks, and shrubs may be
placed outside containers if such materials are cut up and bound into
bundles of no more than four feet (4 ft.) in length and weighing no
more than eighty (80) pounds per bundle. Grass clippings and leaves
are to be placed in suitable refuse containers not exceeding 30 gallons
capacity each.
16.202 Containers)
For purposes of this article, suitable containers for single
family units are defined as containers made of metal, plastic or paper
not exceeding 30 gallons capacity eb.ch sold commercially for the
specific purpose of garbage and refuse disposal. The container shall
have a close fitting top or be capable of being tightly closed by
rolling or tying the top.
For purposes of this article, suitable containers for buildings
other than sii,gle family dwellings may be those designated for use by
single family dwellings or matal containers with a capacity more than
thirty (30) gallons sold comnercially for the specific purpose of
garbage and refuse disposal and acceptable to the refuse collector.
The container shall have a close fitting top.
16.203 Deposit in Street)
No garbage or refuse of any kind shall be deposited in any street,
alley or public way, excepting as is provided in this article; and no
such garbage and refuse shall be so placed that it can be blown about
or scattered by the wind.
No garbage or refuse of any kind shall be placed in the public
right-of-way in public view for pickup unless said pickup is scheduled
within the succeeding twenty-four (24) hour period.

16.204 Pees)
A fee of two dollars ane seventy-five cents ($2.75) per month
per residence or apartment unit maybe charged for the collection
and disposal of: garbage, refuse, and ashes when containers are placed
for pickup from the parkway abutting such premises or at the -rear or
side of apartment buildings where service drives or alleys are provided.
A fee of three dollars and seventy-five cents ($3.75) per month
per home or apartment unit may be charged for the disposal of garbage
and refuse when containers are to be picked up from the side or rear
of said home or apartment building without service drives or alleys.
Excluded from pickup under normal service charges are scrap.
materials from the construction, remodeling, and/or repair of buildings,
and concrete, bricks, tree stumps, earth or earthy materials, automobile
bodies or parts or .large machine parts weighing more than (60) pounds, and
materials of a toxic, highly flammable, or explosive nature. The above
items may be collected for additional compensation to be agreed upon by
the property opener and the refuse collector.
. Bills shall be for a three --month service period; the due date for
payment is to be the fifteenth day following the last day of the service
period; a penalty of fifty cents (501) shall be added to each bill if
payment is not made on or before the due date.
16.205 Disposal)
It shall be unlawful, for any person, firm or corporation to burn
garbage or refuse in the Village or to permit the same to accumulate
in any manner so as to create a nuisance or to attract vermin. Approved
gasinators or such similar approved equipment when properly installed
and inspected may be used for the burning of garbage and refuse; and
properly installed kitchen garbage disposals may be used for the dis-
posal of garbage and refuse within the Village.
Where new construction or major remodeling is taking place, open
burning of refuse derivable therefrom is prohibited.
16.206 Penalty)
Any person, firm or corporation violating any provision of this
article shall be fined not less than two dollars ($2.00) nor more than
twenty-five ($25.00) dollars for each offense; and a separate offense
shsll be deemed committed on each day during or on which a violation
occurs or continues.
Section 2. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from
and after its passage, approval and publication according to law.
