AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING SALARIES FOR THE POLICE
DEPARTMENT OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
AND AMENDING ORDINANCE N0. 221.
NOWy THEREFCREy BE IT ORDAINED by the President and Board of Trustees
of the Village Af Elk Grove, Counties of Cook and DuPage, Illinois:
Section 1. That the salaries for patrolman of the Village of Elk
Grbve Village shall be and hereby established to be as follows:
36,400 per annum - for a patrolman with less than one year
police experience.
,6,700 per annum - for a patrolman with one year but less
than two years police experience.
37,000 per annum - for a patrolman with two years but less
than three years police experience.
37,300 per annum - for a patrolman with three years police
experiende, based upon merit and upon the
recommendation of the Chief of Police.
Police experience as used herein shall include services as a law enforcement
officer with the Village of Elk Grove Villagers regular Police Department and
service with any other village, county, state or federal regular police department.
Section 2. Permanency of employment with the police department of the
Village of Elk Grove Village shall not be considered in salary determination.
Section 3. Within ten (10) days from passage of this ordinance or at the
time of hiring a new policeman the Police and Fire Commission of the Village shall
ascertain and verify a policeman's prior police experience if any. Police
experience shall be computed to the nearest month. Periods of less than fifteen
(15) days shall be disregarded. Periods of more than fifteen (15) days shall be
computed as a full months experience. Upon ascertainment of a policemants
experience the Secretary of the Police and Fire Commission shall transmit to the
Village Treasurer the following information:
A - The name of the policeman.
B - The effective date of employment with the Village of Elk Grove
Village's Police Department.
C - Prior police experience expressed in months.
Duplicate copies of the foregoing shall be sent to the Chief of Police, the
Village Manager and the Village Clerk.
Section 4. All pay increases resulting either directly or indirectly
from police experience acquired as a member of the Police Department of the
village shall be effective on the first day of the pay period wherein falls the
policeman's annual experience anniversary. In determining the policeman's
experience anniversary date prior police experience with other police departments
as well as service with the Police Department of the Village of Elk Grove Village
shall be considered.
Section 5. That the salaries of the policemen of the Village of Elk
Grove Village who have obtained the ranks indicated below are hereby established
as follows:
Sergeant ---------------------------- $7,800 per annum
Chief of Police -----------------------$10,000 per annum
Said salaries to be effective on the first day of the pay period in which the
policeman obtains the rank indicated above.
Section 6. That the salaries of the policemen of the Village of Elk
Grove Village who have obtained the rank of Sergeant shall be increased as follows:
4500 per annum for each year of service in the rank indicated; However, the salary
paid shall not exceed 48,300 per annum. Said increase to be effective on the first
day of the pay period wherein the policeman obtains the service time noted above.
Section 7. Upon attainment of the rank of Sergeant by any policeman, the
Police and Fire Commission shall notify the Village Treasurer as to the date
when said employment status and rank were effective.
Section S. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and
after June 1, 1965 and its passage and approval according to law.
