HomeMy WebLinkAboutORDINANCE - 225 - 3/19/1962 - TREES/AMEND CODEORDINANCE NO. 225 Ail ORDINANCE AMENDING PROVISIONS RELATING TO TREES OF SECTION 8.005, CHAPTER 8, SUBDIVISIONS OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Elk Grove Village, Counties of Cook and DuPage, Illinois: Section 1. That such provisions of Section 8.005 as relate to trees of Chapter 8, Subdivisions, of the Municipal Code of Elk Grove Village be and are hereby amended to read as follows: "Trees. "a) Requirements as to number, location and type: Street trees shall be planted throughout the entire subdivision. Such trees shall be planted in the parkways not less than four feet from any sidewalk or curb and spaced not more than fifty feet apart not less than one per lot. However, at street corners trees shall be located at least twenty feet from the intersection of street right-of-way lines. Where the planting strip between the sidewalk and street curb is less than six feet wide, the trees shall be planted on the lots. "The following trees are acceptable to the Village for such planting: red or pin oak, hard maple, American or European linden, sycamore, thornless honey locust, ironwood, columnar maple or hackberry, American ash. "The average trunk diameter of such trees measured at a height of six inches above finished ground level, shall be a minimum of 2.5 inches. "The developer is to certify to the Village Board that said trees are free from disease under the State of Illinois Inspection Department standar�s. The trees shall be transplanted stock and transplanting thereof having been done within four years from the time of purchase. Trees when planted shall bear a guarantee of one full year. "b) Planting requirements. All top soil used shall be clean and of good quality and shall be tested by the State or County agricultural agency and improved with chemical fertilizers or organic manures as recommended by such agency. "c) Tree pits. Tree pits shall be round, at least six inches wider than the diameter of the root spread, shall have vertical sides and shall be at least twenty-four inches below finish grade. "d) Planting: Each tree shall be planted plumb slightly lower than where it stood in the nursery (in relation to finish grade); and shall be thoroughly watered when the hole is two-thirds full of top soil. After watering, the filling shall be completed and the soil thoroughly tamped. After planting a three inch mulch of well rotted manure or peat shall be applied over the dis- turbed ground and a shallow watering basin provided around the tree. "e) Maintenance. All trees shall be watered and maintained until established. All trees not in a vigorous growing condition after one growing season shall be replaced at the beginning of the next succeeding planting season. 'If) Seasonal limits. Planting shall be done during the proper seasons. No planting shall be done in frozen soil or during unfavorable weather conditions. "g) Staking. Each tree shall be staked with one 2z inch square stake eight feet long. The stake shall be driven plumb 22 feet into the ground and close to the tree. Tie at top and bottom with a figure 8 hitch consisting of No. 14 gauge wire encased in a section of rubber hose." Section 2. That -this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage, approval and publication according to law. PASSED this 12th day of March, 1962.
