HomeMy WebLinkAboutORDINANCE - 237 - 7/10/1962 - DOG BITES/AMENDEDORDINANCE NO. 237 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 17.206 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE RELATING TO DOG BITES WHEREAS, it is deemed desirable that the Village of Elk Grove Village conform its ordinances to State statutes relating to the handling of dog bite cases, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT Board of Trustees of the Village of Cook and DuPage, Illinois, ORDAINED by the President and of Elk Grove Village, Counties Section 1. That Section 17.206 of the Municipal Code of Elk Grove Village be and is hereby amended to read as follows: "17.206. Dog Bite. Whenever any dog bites a person, the owner of said dog will immediately notify the Chief of Police and the Village Health Officer. Whenever the Chief of Police receives information that any ;person has been bitten by a dog he shall immediately have said dog confined to a pound or with a veterinarian for a period of ten (10) days and have the dog observed and tested by a licensed veterinarian. If at the end of the ten days a veterinarian is convinced that the dog is free from rabies and so certifies, the dog shall be released. If the dog dies while confined, its head shall be sent to the State Department of Health for examination for rabies. All costs incurred by the Village in either keeping, observing or testing of a dog who has bitten a person shall be paid by the owner." Section 2. That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage, approval and publication, according to law. PASSED this 10th day of July, 1962.
