HomeMy WebLinkAboutORDINANCE - 99 - 5/11/1959 - FIRE POLICE COMMISSIONOrdinance No. 99 AN ORDINANCE establishing a Fire and Police Commission. WHEREAS, the Village of Elk Grove Village, at the regular election held on April 21, 1959, did by a majority of the votes cast adopt the article providing for the appointment of Fire and Police Commissioners, which said proposition was submitted at the regular election pursuant to a petition of electors,: duly filed with the Village Clerk, February 23, 1959; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Elk Grove Village, Cook County, Illinois: SECTION 1. Creation. There is hereby created a board of fire and police commissioners, consisting of three (3) members whose terms of office shall be three (3) years and until their respective successors are appointed and have qualified., SECTION Z. Qualifications. The members of said board shall possess the qualifications required of other officers of the Village, shall take oath or affirmation of office, and give bond in thee same manner as other appointive officers of the Village,, They shell be subje,,.t to the removal from office as such other officers. SECTION 3� Appointment of Board. Such board of fire and police commissioners shall appoint all officers end members of the fire and police department of the Village, except the chief of police and the chief of the fire department„ which appointments sb:kll be madle by the President and Board of Trustees of the Village. All appointrner.:ts made by the board of fire and police commissioners sha,11 be from the rank next below that to which the appointment sha11 be made, other than that of the lowest rank. SECTION 4. Rules, Such board of commissioners shall make such rules and make such appointments and removals except those herein reserved to the President and Board of Trustees, and shall have such other and further powers as is contained in Chapter 24, Article 14 of the Revised Cities and Villages Act as amended. SECTION S. SecretarL. Such board may employ a secre- tary or may designate one of its own members to art as such, The secretary shall keep the minutes of the board's proceedings, shall be custodian of all peepers pertw.ining to the business of the board, shall keep a record of all examinations held„ and shall perform such other duties as the board shall prescribe. SECTION b, That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon its passage a.nd approval according to law. PASSED: APPROVED: ATTEST: this 11th day of May, A.
