HomeMy WebLinkAboutORDINANCE - 100 - 5/25/1959 - SPECIAL ELECTIONOrdinance No. 100 AN ORDINANCE calling a special election within the Village of Elk Grove Village for the purpose of voting For or Against a tax of . 10 per cent for a free public Library, and for the election of six (6) Library Directors. WHEREAS, fifty (50) and more, to -wit, three hundred eighty- eight (388) legal voters of the Village of Elk Grove Village, Cook County, Illinois, have presented a petition to the Village Clerk of said Village asking that an annual tax of . 10 per cent of full, fair cash value, as equalized or assessed by the Department of Revenue be levied for the establishment and maintenance of a free public library in said Village, and have requested that said proposition be submitted at a special election to be called and held for that purpose; and, WHEREAS, said petition in all respects complies with the requirements and provisions of Section 10 of Chapter 81 of the Illinois Revised Statutes, 1957, and that it is necessary that said proposition. together with the election of six (6) library directors be submitted to the electors of said village under the provisions of the statute hereinabove mentioned; Now, Therefore, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: SECTION 1. 'In compliance with the petition filed with the Village Clerk and pursuant to the Statute in such case made and provided, and that for the purpose of procuring the assent of the voters of said Village that an annual tax of . 10 per cent be levied for the establishment and maintenance of a free public library in the Village of Elk Grove Village, Illinois, there will be and there is hereby called a special election to be held in and for the Village of Elk Grove Village, Illinois, on the 18th day of July, 1959, between the hours of 6:00 o'clock A, M. and 6:00 o'clock P.M. (Central Day- light Savings Time), at which election every elector of said Village may vote for or against a tax of . 10 per cent for a free public library and for the election of six (6) library directors, two (2) to serve until 1961; two (2) to serve until 1963; and two (2) to serve until 1965 SECTION 2. That for this special election said Village is divided into two (2) voting precincts,, the boundaries thereof and the polling places therefor being as follows: PRECINCT NO. 1 Polling Place: All that part of the Village lying North of the center line of Oakton Street. Model Home 6 Forest Lane Elk Grove Village, Illinois PRECINCT NO. 2 All that part of the Village lying South of the center line of Oaktou Street. Polling Place: Ira Rupley School Oakton Street Elk Grove Village, Illinois SECTION 3. That notice of said election shall be given by the Village Clerk by publication at least once in the Elk Grove Herald„ a newspaper of general circulation within the Village of Elk Grove Village, (there being no newspaper published within said Village), not less than fifteen (15) nor more than thirty (30) days previous to the date of said election; and such notice shall be substantially in the following form: NOTICE OF SPECIAL ELECTION NOTICE is hereby given that on Saturday, the 18th day of July, 1959, a Special Election will be held in and for the Village of -2- Elk Grove Village, Cook County, Illinois, for the following purposes: (1) Every elector may vote for or against a . 10 per cent tax for a free public library: the rate of tax as specified in the petition filed with the Village Clerk. (2) To elect six (6) Library Directors as follows: Two (2) for two (2) year term expiring 1961 Two (2) for four (4) year term expiring 1963 Two (2) for six (6) year term expiring 1965 That for this special election said Village is divided into two (2) voting precincts, the boundaries thereof and polling places there- for being as follows: PRECINCT NO. 1 Polling Place: All that part of the Village lying North of the center line of Oaktoa Street Model Home 6 Forest Lane Elk Grove Villages Illinois PRECINCT NO., 2 All that part of the Village lying South of the center line of Oakton Street Polling Place: Ira Rupley School Oakton Street Elk Grove Village, Illinois The polls at said election will be opened at 6 o'clock A.
