WHEREAS, the proposed expansion of O'Hare Airport by Chicago
Mayor Richard Daley would be highly destructive and harmful to the
health, safety, environment, and quality of life of our community;
and
WHEREAS, the proposed expansion of O'Hare Airport by Chicago
Mayor Richard Daley would not provide an adequate solution for the
capacity needs of the region; and
WHEREAS, the proposed expansion of O'Hare Airport by Chicago
Mayor Richard Daley would actually create increased aircraft delays
at O'Hare because of the inefficient and unsafe design of Mayor
Daley's proposal to handle aircraft operations in bad weather; and
WHEREAS, the capacity needs of the region as well as the delay
problems at O'Hare can be addressed by routing the excess traffic to
a new South Suburban Airport; and
WHEREAS, the South Suburban Airport can be built at far less
cost than the proposed expansion of O'Hare Airport by Chicago Mayor
Richard Daley and in far less time; and
WHEREAS, the South Suburban Airport will provide far more
aviation capacity to the region than the proposed expansion of
O'Hare Airport by Chicago Mayor Richard Daley and at far less
adverse environmental impact; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Daley, Senator Durbin and Congressman Lipinski
are urging Congress to destroy state laws that protect our health,
environment and quality of life; and

WHEREAS, Illinois United States Senator Peter Fitzgerald has
courageously led the fight in the United States Senate to protect
our health, environment and quality of life from the proposed
expansion of O'Hare Airport and attempts to circumvent state laws
that protect our health, environment and quality of life.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Board of
Trustees of the Village of Elk Grove Village, Counties of Cook and
DuPage, State of Illinois as follows:
Section 1: That the Mayor and Board of Trustees hereby
extends its appreciation and gratitude on behalf of the citizens of
Elk Grove Village to Senator Peter Fizgerald for his efforts,
courage and fortitude in fighting to protect our health, living
environment and quality of life from the proposed expansion of
O'Hare Airport.
Section That this Resolution shall be in full force and
effect from and after its passage and approval according to law.

PASSED this 23rd day of April, 2002.
