HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTION - 46-97 - 10/14/1997 - QUIET COMMUNITIES ACT OF 1997RESOLUTION NO. 46-97 A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE QUIET COMMUNITIES ACT OF 1997 WHEREAS, up to now the Federal Aviation Administration has always acted as judge and jury in matters of aircraft noise, and WHEREAS, according to many recognized associations, organizations and medical experts, the Federal aviation Administration has consistently grossly underestimated the number of people whose health has been, is, and will be affected by airport noise and has obscured significant adverse environmental impacts of aircraft noise, and WHEREAS, it is absolutely essential that an independent, "outside the industry" organization has a meaningful and authoritative say in aircraft noise matter, and WHEREAS, the United Stares Environmental Protection Agency has legislative authority in the area of aircraft noise, and WHEREAS, the United States Environmental Protection Agency has been prevented from acting to utilize its given authority for this function due to lack of funding, and WHEREAS, House Resolution 536 and Senate Bill 951, the Quiet Communities Act of 1997, would provide funding for this function. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Elk Grove Village, Counties of Cook and DuPage, State of Illinois as follows: Section 1. That the President and Board of Trustees, with concern for the health and well-being of its citizens, strongly urges all members of the Illinois Delegation to cosponsor the Quiet Communities Act of 1997. Section 2. That this Resolution be conveyed to Governor Jim Edgar, Senator Peter G. Fitzgerald, Senator James Philip, Representative Terry R. Parke and Representative Kathleen L. Wojcik. Section 3. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval as provided by law. VOTE: AYES: 6 NAYS: O ABSENT: O PASSED this APPROVED this ATTEST: Patricia S.
