HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTION - 58-97 - 11/11/1997 - PARTNERSHIP FOR CHGO AIRPORT FUTURE RESOLUTION NO. 58-97 A RESOLUTION TO JOIN THE PARTNERSHIP FOR METROPOLITAN CHICAGO'S AIRPORT FUTURE AND TO URGE THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY AND CONGRESS TO SUPPORT CONSTRUCTION OF A THIRD REGIONAL AIRPORT WHEREAS, the Village of Elk Grove Village has formally adopted a position supporting the construction of a new regional airport for Northeastern Illinois and a ban on further expansion of O'Hare Field including a ban on new runways; and WHEREAS, Congressmen Henry J. Hyde and Jesse Jackson, Jr. have published a study entitled "The Partnership for Metropolitan Chicago's Airport Future: A Call for Regional Leadership" ; and WHEREAS, the central goals of the study are construction of a new regional airport and a ban on further expansion of O'Hare Field including a ban on new runways - goals already supported by the Village of Elk Grove Village; and WHEREAS, Congressmen Henry J. Hyde and Jesse Jackson, Jr. have asked local communities across the Region, the Illinois Legislature, and the Illinois Congressional Delegation to join with them in their efforts to further the goals of The Partnership for Metropolitan Chicago's Airport Future. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Elk Grove Village, Counties of Cook and DuPage, State of Illinois as follows: Section 1: That the Village of Elk Grove Village hereby officially joins the Partnership for Metropolitan Chicago's Airport Future. Section 2: That the Village of Elk Grove Village reaffirms its position endorsing construction of a new regional airport and a ban on further expansion of O'Hare Field including a ban on new runways. Section 3: That the Village of Elk Grove Village hereby respectfully requests and urges the leadership and members of the Illinois General Assembly to enact legislation that guarantees construction of a new regional airport and a ban on further expansion of O'Hare Field including a ban on new runways. Section 4: That this Resolution be conveyed to United States Senator Carol Moseley-Braun, Senator Richard J. Durbin, Congressman Henry J. Hyde, Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. , Congressman Philip M. Crane, State Senator Peter G. Fitzgerald, Senator James Philip, Representative Terry R. Parke, Representative Kathleen L. Wojcik, and the Suburban O'Hare Commission. Section 5: That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval as provided by law. VOTE: AYES: 6 NAYS: 0 ABSENT: 0 PASSED this 11th day of November 1997.
