A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING
QUALITY OF LIFE REFERENDUM
WHEREAS, noise and air pollution from aircraft operations from
O'Hare Airport cause serious harm to our quality of life and our
property values; and
WHEREAS, construction of new runways and other expansion of O'Hare
will severely exacerbate our existing problems and create new
additional levels of harm to our quality of life; and
WHEREAS, the General Assembly of the State of Illinois is
empowered to enact legislation which will protect our quality of life
and property values by prohibiting further expansion of O'Hare Airport
-- particularly banning of new runways.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the President and Board of
Trustees of the Village of Elk Grove Village, Counties of Cook and
DuPage, State of Illinois hereby resolves that the following advisory
question of public policy shall be submitted to the voters residing
within the Village of Elk Grove Village at the next regularly scheduled
election:
Section 1 : That a general advisory referendum shall be held on
Tuesday, March 19, 1996 in accordance with the provisions of Article 28
of the Illinois Election Code, 10 ILCS 5/28-1 et seq. for the
purpose of submitting the following advisory public question to the
legal voters of the Village of Elk Grove Village:
Should the General Assembly allow hundreds of
thousands of new flights over our homes, increased
noise, increased air pollution, decreases in our
property values and increased safety hazards over
our community by allowing Chicago to build new
runways at O'Hare?
-YES NO
Section 2: That the Village Clerk is hereby directed to file
this resolution with the Election Department of the Cook County Clerk's
Office no later than Thursday, January 18, 1996.
Section 3: That this resolution shall be in full force and
effect from and after its passage and approval according to law.
VOTE: AYES: P. Rettberg, R. Chernick, N. Czarnik,
D. Gallitano
NAYS: C. Johnson, S. Lissner, J. Petri
ABSENT: None
