RESOLUTION NO. 45-96
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING REFERENDUM
ON O'HARE AIRPORT RUNWAYS
WHEREAS, noise and air pollution from aircraft operations at
O'Hare Airport cause serious hann to our quality of life and our
property values; and
WHEREAS, construction of new runways and other expansion of O'Hare
Airport will severely exacerbate our existing problems and create new
additional levels of harm to our quality of life; and
WHEREAS, the General Assembly of the State of Illinois is
unpowered to enact legislation which will protect our quality of life
and property values by prohibiting further expansions of O'Hare Airport
-- particularly banning new runways.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOL;M) by the President and Board of
Trustees of the Village of Elk Grove Village, Counties of Cook and
DuPage, State of Illinois.
Section 1. That the following advisory question of public policy
shall be suhnitted to the voters residing within the Village of Elk
Grove Village at the regularly scheduled election on November 5,
1996:
Should new runways be built at O'Hare Airport?
YES NO
This suhnission of this advisor,t question of public policy is
authorized and is made pursuant to the provision of Article 28, of the
Illinois Election code, 10 ILCS 5/28-1, et-seq.
Section 2: That the Village Clerk is hereby directed to file
this resolution with the Election Department of the Cook County Clerk's
Office no later than Thursday, September 5, 1996 to be suhnLitted to the
voters of the Village of Elk Grove Village in accord with this
resolution.
Section 3: That this resolution shall be in full force and
effect from and after its passage and approval according to law.
