A RESOLUTION IN OPPOSITION TO HB -568
(LOCAL GUN CONTROL)
WHEREAS, the Illinois General Assembly is considering HB -568,
which enforces a statewide preemption of local gun control laws; and
WHEREAS, HB -568 prohibits municipalities from providing for the
best possible health, safety and welfare of their residents; and
WHEREAS, HB -568 preempts Home Rule authority by eliminating the
ability of any local government to regulate firearms, ammunition,
components, and accessories related to firearms within their
boundaries ; and
WHEREAS, HB -568 would effectively eliminate the long lasting
efforts of local governments to decrease and eliminate the
proliferation of firearms; and
WHEREAS, by forbidding local governments from passing stricter
firearms laws than the State, HB -568 would allow any person who is
"in possession, transports, stores, purchases, sells or otherwise deals
in firearms" to effectively sell and deal these items from homes,
warehouses, car trunks, or any other place; and
WHEREAS, local governments are in the best position to pass
legislation that protects the health and well-being of our citizens; and
