A RESOLUTION AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 6-93 AND RESOLUTION
NO. 27-95, SMOKING POLICIES; AND ADOPTING THE VILLAGE OF
ELK GROVE VILLAGE SMOKING POLICY PROHIBITING SMOKING INSIDE
BUILDINGS AND FACILITIES OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
WHEREAS, the Village Board passed and approved Resolution No.
6-93, which Resolution adopted an amended smoking policy for Village
buildings and facilities; and
WHEREAS, notwithstanding the fact that the amended smoking policy
was more restrictive than previously approved smoking policies, the
President and Board of Trustees retained a concern regarding secondary
smoke inhalation in regard to the health, safety and welfare of all
employees as well as to visitors of municipal buildings and facilities;
and
WHEREAS, it has been determined by the Board that a policy further
restricting smoking in all municipal buildings is in the best interest
of the Village, its employees, visitors and invitees and the residents
of the Village; and
WHEREAS, in consideration of those employees who do not smoke, the
Village reviewed this policy on November 14, 1995 as set forth in
Resolution No. 27-95.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the President and Board of
Trustees of the Village of Elk Grove Village, Counties of Cook and
DuPage, State of Illinois as follows:
Section 1: That smoking shall be prohibited inside all Village
buildings and facilities, except that smoking shall be permitted in the
following designated areas: Apparatus floors vented to the outside; and
Fire Administration lounge. Smoking shall be permitted outside
municipal buildings in such areas as are designated by the Village
Manager, but in no instance shall smoking be permitted at public
entrances to Village buildings and facilities.
Section 2: That a copy of the Village of Elk Grove Village
Smoking Policy is attached hereto and made a part hereof as if fully
set forth.
Section 3: That this Resolution shall be in full force and
effect January 1, 1996 and from and after its passage and approval
according to law.

VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE POLICY ON SMOKING
POLICY
It is the policy of the Village of Elk Grove to accomodate the
preference of the non-smoker in Village buildings and facilities
and to provide a healthy work environment for all employees of the
Village.
PROHIBITED SMOKING AREAS AND EXCEPTIONS
Smoking is prohibited in all public buildings with the
exception of the following locations:
- Apparatus floors of the Fire Stations, Public Works
Garages, and Police Garage;
- Patio off of the Municipal Building lunch room; and
- Fire Department Smoking lounge
In addition, employees are to refrain from smoking at the
outside entrance to public buildings.
ENFORCEMENT OF POLICY
Employees and visitors are expected to honor the smoking
policy as it pertains to Village buildings and facilities. In
addition, no member of an outside group using the Municipal Complex
meeting rooms will be permitted to smoke on the grounds surrounding
the building. Failure to abide by this policy will result in the
forfeiture of all meeting room priveleges.
Compliance with this policy is the responsibility of all
employees. Adherence to the policy in each department shall be
enforced by the Department Head.
