A RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE VILLAGE OF
ELK GROVE VILLAGE SMOKING POLICY
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the President and Board of Trustees
of the Village of Elk Grove Village, Counties of Cook and DuP2ge, State of
Illinois as follows:
Section 1: That the President and Board of Trustees do hereby adopt
the document entitled:
Village of Elk Grove
Smoking Policy
a cop� of which is attached hereto and made a part hereof as if fully set
forth.
Section 2: That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect
from and after its passage and approval according to law.

VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE
POLICY ON SMOKING
POLICY
It is the policy of the Village of Elk Grove to respect the
preference of both the non-smoker and the smoker in Village
buildings and facilities.
When these preferences conflict, the Administration and employees
of each department in the Village should endeavor to find a
reasonable accommodation.
PROHIBITED AREAS (General)
Smoking is prohibited in areas with sensitive equipment like
computers or copiers where exposure to smoke is identified as
harmful .
Smoking is prohibited where combustible fumes can collect, in
areas where chemicals are used, and in all other areas where an
occupational safety or health hazard might exist.
WORK AREAS
in work areas where space is shared by two or more persons an
effort shall be made to accommodate individual preferences to the
degree prudently possible. When requested, Department Heads,
Department Administrative Staff and Department Supervisors shall
make a reasonable attempt to separate persons who smoke from
those who do not.
Employees may designate their private offices as smoking or
non-smoking areas. Visitors to private work areas should honor
the wishes of the host.
AREAS OF COMMON USE
Smoking is prohibited in meeting rooms, conference rooms and
class rooms. Smoking is prohibited in the Council Chamber.
Smoking is permitted in lobbies and the lower level of the Atrium
in the municipal building. Smoking is prohibited in the upper
level of the Atrium in the municipal building.
in locations of common use, such as cafeterias, dining areas, and
employee lounges, smoking shall be permitted. Smoking is
permitted in corridors unless designated as a non-smoking area
based on the preceding guidelines of this policy.
Smoking is prohibited in stairwells, copy rooms and waiting rooms.
ENFORCEMENT OF THE POLICY
Employees and visitors are expected to honor the smoking and
non-smoking designations and to be considerate of non-smokers in
their vicinity.
Compliance with this policy is the responsibility of all
employees. Adherence to the policy in each department shall be
enforced by each Department Head.
