A RESOLUTION URGING STATE OF ILLINOIS SUPPORT FOR THE
ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY PROGRAM BY THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
WHEREAS, the Village of Elk Grove Village recognizes the value of
maintaining litter free roadsides; and
WHEREAS, the various governmental agencies responsible for
rights-of-ways within the Village of Elk Grove Village do not always have
the resources available to adequately maintain litter free roadways; and
WHEREAS, there are civic minded groups within the Village of Elk Grove
Village that would voluntarily undertake the collection of litter along
roadways within the Village of Elk Grove Village; and
WHEREAS, a nationwide Adopt-A.-Highway program has been established in
40 states that Successfully allows civic minded groups to assist government
in maintaining litter free roadsides; and
WHEREAS, the State of Illinois has not developed procedures for
Adopt-A-Highway programs in Illinois, and has not acted to permit the
implementation of Adopt-A-Highway programs along state rights-of-ways.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the President and Board of Trustees
of the Village of Elk Grove Village, Counties of Cook and DuPage, State of
Illinois as follows:
Section 1: That the Village of Elk Grove Village hereby urges the
State of Illinois to establish standardized procedures for Adopt-A-Highway
programs in Illinois, and take the steps necessary to allow the
implementation of Adopt-A-Highway programs along state rights-of-ways.
Section 2: That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect
from and after its passage and approval according to law.
