Ahrens has been a public servant for twenty-three years, serving as Alderman of the Second Ward from 1967 to his election in 1979 as Mayor of the City of Rolling Meadows; and WHEREAS, in assuming the Mayor's chair, Bill enlarged his service to include Directorships of the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County, to address solid waste disposal , and the Northwest Suburban Joint Action Water Agency, to provide Lake Michigan water to the area; and WHEREAS, Bill served on the Board of Directors and as President of the Northwest Municipal Conference; and WHEREAS, Bill was instrumental in development of the Greater Woodfield Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Schaumburg Convention Authority, the Rolling Meadows Chamber of Commerce, and the Rotary Club of Rolling Meadows, and served on the Citizens Advisory Committee for Clearbrook Center for the Handicapped; and WHEREAS, Bill has been a leader not only in the City of Rolling Meadows but in the Northwest Suburban Area; and WHEREAS, the Village of Elk Grove values Bill 's friendship and has been the recipient of his insight and good judgement in regional affairs. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that on the occasion of William D. Ahrens' retirement as Mayor of the City of Rolling Meadows , and from other leadership duties, the Village President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Elk Grove Village, through this Resolution, do extend their THANK YOU to William D. Ahrens for his outstanding service and unselfish contributions in the field of Local and Intergovernmental Public Administration. PASSED and APPROVED on the 9th day of October, 1990. Charles J.
