A RESOLUTION HONORING THE ELK GROVE HIGH SCHOOL'S
INDIVIDUAL 1=VENTS SPEECH TEAM
WHEREAS, the Elk Grove High School's Individual Events Speech Team has
distinguished itself by winning Regional and State Championship Speech
Contests; and
WHEREAS, the Individual Events team is an extracurricular activity in
which students develop skills in public speaking, acting and oral inter-
pretation of literature; and
WHEREAS, the students participate in Saturday tournaments held at
various high schools throughout the metro area where team members compete
for individual and team trophies; and
WHEREAS, this season the Elk Grove High School team won over 120
individual awards as well as 10 team awards; and
WHEREAS, the Elk Grove High School team placed 3rd at Regional, 2nd at
Sectional and first at State in the IHSA State Series; and
WHEREAS, the National Forensic: League named the Elk Grove High School
IE and Debate team the "Leading Chapter" in the Northern Illinois District.
Elk Grove High School is one of 78 schools to receive this national honor
out of the 2,300 National Forensic League member schools.
WHEREAS, on Saturday, March 18, 1989, Elk Grove High School's
Individual Events Speech Team scorE�d 26 points to win the State Champion-
ship in this activity; and
WHEREAS, this is the first time in the history of District 214 that a
district school has won the State Championship; and
WHEREAS, recognition is given to Principal Leo F. Hundt, Coach Karen
Mitchell, and her assistants, John Bottiglieri and Jan Bourdage; and
WHEREAS, special recognition is given to the following students for
winning medals in the State finals:
Mari Marroquin - placed 4th in both Original Comedy
and Dramatic Interpretation
Scott Denny - placed 4th in Prose Reading and
3rd in Dramatic Duet Acting
Jennifer Roscoe - placed 3rd in Dramatic Duet Acting and
was State Champion in Oratorical Declamation
Cheryl Levandoski - placed 6th in Radio Speaking
Steve Colella - State Champion in Humorous Duet Acting
Keith Levin - State Champion in Humorous Duet Acting
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the President and Board of Trustees
of the Village of Elk Grove Village, Counties of Cook and DuPage, State of
Illinois, as follows:
Section 1. That the Elk Grove High School's Individual Events
Speech Team is hereby commended for the honor they have bestowed upon the
Village and upon this High School by winning the State Championship through
their overall determination, self-sacrifice and dedication.
Section 2. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect
from and after its passage and approval according to law.
