A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE RETENTION OF THE O'HARE MILITARY
RESERVE FACILITY AND GREAT LAKES NAVAL TRAINING COMPLEX
WHEREAS, proposals have been made to terminate the O'Hare Military
Reserve Facility and Great Lakes Naval Training Complex in the Northern
Illinois area; and
WHEREAS, these two installations are militarily vital to the nation
and economically vital to the surrounding communities; and
WHEREAS, Great Lakes has been an important element of our nations defense
since its dedication in 1911; and
WHEREAS, the facility at O'Hare is the home of 24 Air National Guard/Air
Force Reserve Units and the Chicago Region headquarters for the Defense Contract
Administration Service; and
WHEREAS, the closing of these complexes would cause a loss of employment
to 23,200 military and civilian personnel equating to a loss of salaries to
this area in the amount of $228 million.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the President and Board of Trustees
of the Village of Elk Grove Village, Cook and DuPage Counties, Illinois:
Section 1. That the Village of Elk Grove Village supports the retention
of the O'Hare Military Reserve Facility and Great Lakes Naval Training Complex
for the national defense of the United States of America and for the economical
well being of the Northern Illinois area.
Section 2. The Village Clerk is hereby authorized to forward copies of
this Resolution to the President of the United States, Senators Dixon and Simon,
and Congressman Hyde requesting their support for the retention of these two
strategic military installations.
Section 3. That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from
and after its passage and approval according to law.
