A RESOLUTION COMMENDING RICHARD MERICO AND ELK GROVE HIGH
SCHOOL DISTRICT 214 FOR THE PUBLIC SERVICE PRACTICUM
WHEREAS, for the past five years, RichardChierico of the Elk Grove High
School District 214 has coordinated and refined the Public Service Practicum,
an innovative program for student participation in local government affairs:
WHEREAS, Richard Chierico has prepared a Comprehensive Curriculum Guide for
the program which was approved by the Board of Education, State of Illinois, as
a teaching guide for organizing and conducting a Public Service Practicum; and
WHEREAS, this innovative program has found a practical and realistic way
to provide High School students opportunites to become involved in various
local , township, county and state government programs, services and projects
and are provided an opportunity to serve as elected officials, administrators
and professional or technical staff personnel ; and
WHEREAS, students are able to see first hand actual problems confronting
governmental officials and perform assignments which contribute to solving
some of those problems through research, evaluation, discussion and report
preparation; and
WHEREAS, the Public Service Practicum creates a vehicle through which
High School students not only learn about governmental responsibilities but
are provided with an opportunity to learn about careers in public service; and
WHEREAS, elected and appointed Public Officials of the Village of Elk Grove
Village actively assisted in the formulation of the Public Service Practicum,
and have supported the program by having numerous students work in various Village
offices and departments and has provided High School students with practical
acquaintanceship with local government affairs and has expanded their under-
standing of the function and purpose of local government.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the President and Board of Trustees of the
Village of Elk Grove Village, Counties of Cook and DuPage, State of Illinois:
Section 1 . That Richard Chierico be and is hereby commended for his
leadership and perseverence in developing the Public Service Practicum,
an innovative approach to acquaint young adults with governmental
services, responsibilities and opportunities.
Section 2. That Richard Chierico be and is hereby commended for
translating a practical experience project into a viable comprehensive
Curriculum Guide which can be used in any community for the benefit of
both students and communities.
Section 3. That Elk Grove High School , District 214, its Administrators
and its elected Board of Education be and are- hereby commended for their
support and encouragement of an innovative approach to expand the horizons
of High School students about local government affairs, responsibilities
and opportunities.
Section 4. That a copy of this resolution be presented to Richard Chieri=
Elk Grove High School , School District 214; and the Superintendent of
Education, State of Illinois.
Section 5. That this resolution shall be in full force and effect from
and after its passage and approval according to law.
