A RESOLUTION DIRECTED TO THE RTA, REQUESTING ADDITIONAL SERVICES
FOR THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
WHEREAS, the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) is entrusted by the
State to provide public transportation to a six county area including the
Counties of Cook and DuPage; and
WHEREAS, the RTA receives its authority and funding from elected officials
of the State General Assembly; and
WHEREAS, the Elk Grove Village President and Board of Trustees are the
duly elected representatives of the residents of Elk Grove Village; and
WHEREAS, the Elk Grove Village President and Board of Trustees represent
over 27,000 residents and a large industrial area; and
WHEREAS, the State has decreed that the RTA should be responsive to its
entire populous including the suburbs of the greater Chicago area; and
WHEREAS, it is the expressed policy of the RTA to cooperate and respond
to the transit needs of member local governments; and
WHEREAS, the RTA initiated a Harper College bus route (Route No. 693) from
downtown Arlington Heights to Harper College on Monday, January 9, 1978, and
operates a Woodfield Shopping Center bus route (Route No. 209) on Golf Road
from Des Plaines to Schaumburg; and
WHEREAS, the Village of Elk Grove Village strongly supports the continued
development of a viable transportation network for the suburbs; and
WHEREAS, the Village of Elk Grove Village is an intergal part of the
Northwest Suburbs; and
WHEREAS, Elk Grove Village residents also utilize the Woodfield Shopping
Center and attend classes at Harper College.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the President and Board of Trustees of
the Village of Elk Grove Village, Counties of Cook and DuPage, State of Illinois:
Section 1. That the Village President and Board of Trustees acknowledge,
encourage, and reaffirm its committment to development of all mass transit
efforts in the Village of Elk Grove Village.
Section 2. That the Village President and Board of Trustees hereby
request the RTA to develop and implement bus routes to connect the Village
of Elk Grove Village to the Golf Road bus route (Route No. 209) and the
Harper'College bus route (Route No. 693) in order to afford the residents
of the Village of Elk Grove Village the same transit opportunities.as
other residents in the northwest transit area.
Section 3. That the Transportation Committee and Staff of the Village
of Elk Grove Village are prepared to provide local input into the develop-
ment of the above transportation service and will work toward its implemen-
tation in order to provide said service to all sections of the Village.
Section 4. That the Village Clerk is hereby directed to transmit a copy
of this resolution to the following:
