URGING ILLINOIS ROUTE 83 IMPROVEMENT
BY STATE OF ILLINOIS
WHEREAS, the Village of Elk Grove Village is a member
of the DuPage Mayors & Managers Conference, and
WHEREAS, the Department of Transportation of the State
of Illinois, acting under the authority conferred on it by
Section 8-101 of the Illinois Highway Code has on March 17,
1965 designated Federal Aid -Route 102 ($.B.I. Rte. 54 -
I11. Rte. 83) from St. Charles Road and extending in a
southerly direction for a distance of approximately 12.85
miles to the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway grade
separation structure, and
WHEREAS, Illinois Route 83 was declared a freeway and
is governed under Illinois Freeway Law which is described
in Chapter 121, Article 8, Paragraph 201-1 of the Road &
Bridge Law of Illinois, and
WHEREAS, the Department of Transportation of the State
of Illinois did prepare a report entitled "Illinois Rte 83
Economic Study" dated November 1971, and
WHEREAS, the Mobility Study Unit of said Department,
conducted a public meeting on April 18, 1972 with
representatives of DuPage County municipalities along Rte 83
to review its findings prior to any action being taken, and
WHEREAS the Department of Transportation of the State
of Illinois did request from the corporate authorities of
DuPage County municipalities endorsement of one of the three
alternative plans for Rte. 83 which would provide for its
development as either an arterial highway, a freeway, or an
expressway, and
WHEREAS, said municipalities did submit the comments and
recommendations to the Department of Transportation of the
State of Illinois in June of 1972, and
WHEREAS, Illinois Rte. 83 as it extends through DuPage
County is an extremely important, necessary and vital north/
south arterial highway, and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the President and Board of Trustees
of the Village of Elk Grove Village DuPage and Cook
Counties, Illinois, that the Department of Transportation of
the State of Illinois activate the improvement of Rte. 83
from Interstate 55 to a high priority project, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, by the President and Board of Trustees
of the Village of Elk Grove Village DuPage and Cook
Counties, Illinois, that the Department of Transportation of
the State of Illinois proceed with the improvement of Rte. 83
from Interstate 90 to Interstate 55 without unnecessary
further delay.
BE IT STILL FURTHER RESOLVED, that certified copies of
this resolution be distributed to Governor Daniel Walker,
Mr. Langhorne Bond, Secretary of the Department of Transporation
and Mr. Sigmund C. Ziejewski, Regional Transportation Engineer,
Division of Highways.
