RESOLUTION REGARDING THE NEED FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF ILLINOIS ROUTE 72
(HIGGINS ROAD) IN AND ADJACENT TO THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE.
WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the President and Board of
Trustees of Elk Grove Village that the Division of Highways, State of
Illinois, plans to improve Illinois Route 62 (Algonquin Road) and
WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the President and Board of
Trustees of Elk Grove Village that the Division of Highways, State of
Illinois, has no plans to improve Illinois Route 72 (Higgins Road) and
WHEREAS, Illinois Route 72 (Touhy;Avenue) is a six-lane highway, and
WHEREAS, Illinois Route 72 becomes a two-lane highway at the junction
of Touhy Avenue and Higgins Road, and
WHEREAS, Illinois Route 72 (Higgins Road) serves the Centex Industrial
Park in the Village of Elk Grove Village, said Park embracing over 250
industrial plants employing approximately thirteen thousand workers,
the majority of which commute to work from the City of Chicago and
other municipalities, and
WHEREAS, a large number of said workers commute via Route 72, and
WHEREAS, a large percentage of the seventeen thousand residents of
the Village of Elk Grove Village commute to their employment located
in the City of Chicago and located at points in between the City of
Chicago and the Village, and
WHEREAS, many of the said residents would commute via Route 72, and
WHEREAS, Route 72 serves municipalities to the northwest of the Village
of Elk Grove Village, and
WHEREAS, residents of said municipalities travel via Route 72 to work
and shop in the Village of Elk Grove Village, and
WHEREAS, the residential, commercial and industrial development of the
area served by Route 72 is vastly greater than the development of the
area served by Route 62.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the President and Board of Trustees
of the Village of Elk Grove Village, Counties of Cook and DuPage, Illinois:
Section 1 . That it is in the Public Interest that Illinois Route 72
(Higgins Road) be improved immediately.
Section 2. That it is to the greater public interest that Illinois
Route 72 (Higgins Road) be improved prior to the improvement
of Illinois Route 62 (Algonquin Road) .
Section 3. That the Honorable Otto Kerner, Governor of the State of
Illinois be requested to direct an evaluation of the greater
public interest in the development of Illinois Route 72
(Higgins Road) as compared with the development of Illinois
Route 62 (Algonquin Road) .
