A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING A BICYCLE
SAFETY CITIZENS COMMITTEE
WHEREAS, it has become apparent that there are an ever increasing
number of children and adults using bicycles on the streets and thorough-
fares in the Village of Elk Grove Village, and
WHEREAS, the safety of said children and adults riding bicycles
as well as pedestrians and occupants of automobiles require a safety
program calculated to prevent accident and injury resulting frcm accident,
and
WHEREAS, it is believed that the above meationed aims can best
be acccmplished by establishing a citizens bicycle safety committee whose
functions shall be to recommend a safety program and ordinances necessary
to safeguard the residents of the Village of Elk Grove Village and the
public generally;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the President and Board of
Trustees of the Village of Elk Grove Village, Cook County, Illinois, as
follows:
Section 1 That the Village of Elk Grove Village does hereby
establish a FIM—ens bicycle safety committee to be designated as the
Village of Elk Grove Village Bicycle Safety Committee; said ccmmittee to
consist of five members to be appointed by the President and Board of Trus-
tees; that this committee shall conduct an investigation so as to determine
what safety progrsma dnd ordinances would best serve to safeguard the
residents of the Village of Elk Grove Village and to report back to said
President and Board of Trustees as to its recommendations relative to a
safety program and new ordinances, if any be required; that the Pclice De-
partment and such other departments of government as may be necessary shall
cooperate to their utmost in the work done by said ccmmittee.
Section 2 That the aforementioned committee shall be temporary
in nature, is existence to be subject to the pleasure of the President
and Board of Trustees; that said members of said committee shall serve
without compensation.
Section 3 That this resolution shall be in full force and effect
upon its adoption and approval according to law.
ADOPTED this 9th day of January, 1961.
