Pahl called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m. in the Municipal Building in said Village and directed the Village Clerk to call the roll. Upon the roll being called, the following Trustees answered "PRESENT" - Ronald L. Chernick, George C. Coney, James R. Gibson, Eugene V. Keith, Richard A. McGrenera; "ABSENT"' - Charles J. Zettek. The Village Clerk Eleanor G. Turner read the following legal notice which was published in the Elk Grove Herald on October 8, 1967: "Please take notice that on Monday, October 16, 1967 at 7:00 p.m. in the Village Hall, 666 Landmeier Road, Elk Grove Village, the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Elk Grove Village, acting as a Vehicle Commission, shall conduct a public hearing as to whether or not the Coach Cab Co., Wheeling, Illinois shall receive a license to operate taxis within the Village of Elk Grove Village at which time such persons as are interested are invited to attend and will be heard." The Clerk swore in the petitioner, Mr. James W. Donovan. Mr. Donovan stated that he is the sole proprietor of the Coach Cab Co. whose business address is 411 Marvin Place, Wheelingi Illinois. He stated that he has owned this Company since May 1 , 1967 and that he has a contract with the Board of Education of School District 214 to transport youngsters from the Elk Grove High School and the Wheeling High School to the St. Alexius Hospital and plants in the Industrial Park and to „ pick them up after work and take them to their respective homes in sur- rounding communities. He stated that he is requesting a permit for the transportation of these young people and does not wish a license to operate a taxicab service in the Village. In response to questions from the Board members, Mr. Donovan stated that he operates four taxicabs, two of which come into Elk Grove Village for the aforestated purpose; he has a mechanic on duty to service these cabs, and they are inspected every six (6) months by the State of Illinois; State requirements as to insurance coverage are carried through the Fidelity Insurance Company. Mr. Paul Heany Knott, Attorney representing the Elk Grove Village Taxicab Co., requested time in which to review this situation and determine whether or not his client has an objection to the issuance of the license in question. He stated, in reply to questions from Board members, that if the license is issued on the restrictive basis explained in the petitioner's testimony, his clients would not object. President Pahl stated that the Village Board would not take action before October 24, 1967, and he requested Mr. Knott to submit any objections which his client may have prior to that time. Trustee Keith stated that, if the Board takes affirmative action in regard to this petition, he feels the license should be issued without charge because of the nature of the contract which has prompted Mr. Donovan's petition. Trustee McGrenera stated that it is his opinion the School District should be requested to send a letter assuming all financial liabilities which the Village may incur by virtue of the issuance of a license. President Pahl requested that a Police report be prepared and submitted to the Board to be used in its consideration of this petition. Whereupon the President declared the hearing adjourned at 7:28 p.m. / Eleanor G. r, Village Clerk AP D: J Pahl, P eaident -1- Public Hearing 10/16/67
