HomeMy WebLinkAboutFIRE & POLICE COMMISSION - 09/21/1992 - MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSION OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE HELD ON September 21, 1992 Chairman Gayle B. Bantner called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following were present: Alan J. Shapiro, DDS, H. Robert Goldsmith. It was moved by Mr. Goldsmith and seconded by Dr. Shapiro that the minutes of August 24, 1992 be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation; whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried. EXECUTIVE SESSION One year probationary review was held for Firefighter Bret C. Cassata and Firefighter Cassata has been granted permanent status with the Fire Department. One year probationary review was held for Police Officer Gary A. Rosko and Officer Rosko has been granted permanent status with the Police Department. Oral interviews was held for the four(4) Fire Lieutenants that passed the Captains written exam. They are Lt. Miller, Lt. Denna, Lt. Pilkington and Lt. Goostree. Interviews were completed at 10:30 p.m Regular Meeting Continued NEW BUSINESS Invitations received for Ray Rose' s Retirement Party scheduled for October 16, 1992. Letter received from Police Officer Amelia Reeves on her resignation from the Elk Grove Police Department for personal reasons effective September 25, 1992. Letter prepared for acceptance of Officer Reeves resignation. Letter to Commissioners from Deputy Chief Ray Rose for his retirement from the Village of Elk Grove Police Department. Letter regretfully accepted. Fire and Police Co,.J scion Minutes September 21, 1992 Commissioners gave instructions to notify Dr. Mendelsohn of Police Consultants, Inc. , to send study sheets for the Fire and Police Lieutenants up coming test. The sheets will be post in the Fire and Police Departments. Check to see the availability of the Fire Department Administration building for testing and what times are available for the test and can the Fire and Police be tested on the same day. PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES None CORRESPONDENCE A letter was received from Sharon M. Calvin requesting copies of her written, physical and psychological exams taken with Elk Grove in 1991. Commissioners instructed letter be sent that copies of examination are not made available to anyone. Motion by Dr. Shapiro and 2nd by Mr. Goldsmith, all agreed and motion carried unanimously. A copy of the Illinois Human Rights Act was received by the Fire Chief at a seminar in Decatur, Dr. Shaprio read the amended Human Rights Act aloud, the Act was amended recently to prevent discrimination in employment based on citizenship status. After further decision between the Commissioners, the Rules and Regulations state you have to be a citizen to apply for the job. Commissioners instructed that a copy of the amended Human Rights Act be sent to the Fire and Police attorney, Peter Felice for opinion and should this be put on the Fact Sheet of the Rules and Regulations. A letter was received from the Bureau of Testing Services with comments on the Civil Rights Act of 1991 and the Americans with Disabilities Act. Dr. Shapiro read the letter aloud for better understanding and clarity. A Notice of Suspension was issued by Police Chief Engelbrecht for one day to an officer for being absent from duty without proper authorization on September 14, 1992. PENDING Due to late hour, pending will be carried over until next meeting. Next regular meeting will be held October 26, 1992 at 7:30 p.m. Fire and Police Cu...nission Minutes September 21, 1992 ADJOURNMENT It was moved by H. Robert Goldsmith and seconded by Alan J. Shapiro that the meeting be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation; whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried and the meeting adjourned at 12:00 midnight.
