THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON August 22, 1994
Chairman Gayle B. Bantner called the meeting to order at 8:00 P.m.
in the Charles J. Zettek Building, 901 wellington Avenue, Elk Grove
Village, and noted for the record that the following were present:
Alan J. Shapiro, DDS, Gayle Bantner and Ted Thompson.
It was moved by Dr. Shapiro and seconded by Mr. Thompson that the
minutes of July 25, 1994, be approved as submitted and that the Board
dispense with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by
acclamation; whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried_

It was moved by Dr. Shapiro and seconded by Mr. Thompson that the
Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion
was voted upon by acclamation; whereupon the Chairman declared the
motion carried.
NEW BUSINESS
Firefighter Physical Ability testing will be held Saturday, August
27, 1994 at the Streamwood Fire Station. If it rains on that date it
will be held the following day Sunday, August 28, 1994.
The Commissioners would like to welcome Ted Thompson to the Fire
and Police Commission as the new Commissioner.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
Commissioners convened for a brief meeting with Deputy Fire Chief
Clark and Evelyne Layton tO discuss last minute instructions for the
Physical Ability test_

CORRESPONDENCE
1. A magazine article that was in the Illinois Municipal League's
"Review" was sent to the Commissioners from Fire Chief MacArthur,
Titled A List Without Meaning: Eligibility Lists Pursuant To
Public Act 88-440.
2. Copy of a letter, dated July 27, 1994, sent to Ted Thompson that he
had been accepted as the new Fire and Police Commissioner from
President Gallitano.
3 . Copy of a letter, dated July 27, 1994, sent to Lieutenant Donald
_ T. Langland from the Fire Chief regarding Lieutenant Langland's
retirement effective July 31, 1994.
4. Copy of Ordinance No. 2382 reference creating the appointed
position of Captain.
5. Monthly publication of Illinois Professional Firefighters
Association - The UP Size.
6. A letter to the Commissioners from Bureau Of Testing Services
(B.O.T.S. ) offering their services for testing of police officers.
7. A written Reprimand was issued on August 12, 1994, by the Chief
of Police to and officer for inattention to duty.
B. A thank you letter to Fire and Police Commissioner Dr. Shapiro
from Mr. Andy Weis for being allowed to participate in the
Firefighter written exam, unfortunately Mr. Weis did not pass, but
was requesting information on the test areas that he needed
improvement in.
The Commissioners instructed that a letter be written to Mr.
Weis, they were sorry, but that is confidential information.
9. A letter to the Commissioners from Illinois Fire & Police
Recruitment Administration, dated August 15, 1994, offering their
services for testing.
10. Two Written Reprimands were received on Monday, August 22, 1994,
day of the Commissioners monthly meeting and after the agenda had
been prepared.
They were issued by the Chief of Police to two different officers
for two different violations. They were: Incompetency or
inefficiency in the performance of duty and the other was
inattention to duty.

Sergeants test will be scheduled for October or November.
Dates to be set for MIA after the Physical Ability testing.
Next meeting is scheduled September 26, 1994, at the Charles J.
Zettek Municipal Building, 901 Wellington Avenue at 8:00 p.m.
Adjournment
It was moved by Mr. Thompson and seconded by Dr. Shapiro that the
meeting be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation;
whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried and the meeting
adjourned at 10:00 p.m.
