HomeMy WebLinkAboutFIRE & POLICE COMMISSION - 01/22/1996 - MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE HELD ON January 22, 1996 Chairman Gayle B. Bantner called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Municipal Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following were present: Alan J. Shapiro, DDS, Gayle B. Bantner and Ted E. Thompson. The Fire and Police Commissioners convene to the Council Chambers for a Public Hearing with the Commissioners Attorney, Peter Felice reference Police officer Patrick Hayes. The hearing was continued until February 26, 1996. EXECUTIVE SESSION The Commissioners met with Deputy Chief Steve Schmidt and Larry Hammer to discuss dates, times, Fact Sheet and legal notices for the newspapers in arranging the Police Officers exam. The Commissioners then met with two(2) Firefighter Candidates for their second oral interview in becoming a firefighter with the Elk Grove Fire Department. Both candidates Matthew Reidy and George Burger were offer the position pending their medical exams. The Commissioners then resumed their regular schedule meeting. It was moved by Ted Thompson and seconded by Dr. Shapiro that the minutes of November 27, 1995 be approved and that the Board dispense with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation; whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried. PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES M & M Reporting, Inc. $ 60.00 Dr. BOyajian Medical Exam for David Klingsporn 415.00 Theodore Polygraph Service 60.00 F/F Candidate Matthew Reidy Theodore Polygraph Service 60.00 F/F Candidate George Burger Dues for Illinois Fire & Police Commissioners Association 195.00 for Chairman Bantner, Sec. Shapiro, T.Thompson Speed E Arrow 52.00 for Application Cards Peter Felice 320.00 for retainer fees for December & January $160 ea. Total of Bills $ 1,162.00 It was moved by Dr. Shapiro and seconded by Ted Thompson that the Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by acclamation; whereupon the chairman declared the motion carried. NEW BUSINESS Discuss dates for Orientation and Written exam for the Police Department. CORRESPONDENCE 1. Copy of letter from Richard Olson, Human Resources Officer, to Officer Hayes reference his insurance premiums. 2. Memo from Deputy Chief Stephen F. Schmidt reference census information. 3. Notice from Theodore Polygraph Service with change in fees, their fee schedule has increased from $60 to $70. 4. Letter from William W. Kurnik to Chairman Gayle Bantner requesting copies of files of six police officers reference Cefalu vs. village of Elk Grove. 5. Newspaper article reference Cop Deals with Death of Suspect. 6. Newspaper article reference Cop Cleared in Fatal Shooting. 7. Three written Reprimands issued by the Chief of Police to three(3) different officers on January 18, 1996, two(2) for failure to be prompt for duty assignment, including roll call and court appearance, and one(1) for failure to operate village vehicle in a safe, and prudent manner, or to obey related traffic laws. OLD BUSINESS None PENDING None Next meeting is scheduled February 26, 1996, at the Charles J. zettek Municipal Building, 901 Wellington Avenue at 7:00 p.m. ADJOURNMENT It was moved by Dr. Shapiro and seconded by Ted Thompson that the meeting be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation; whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried and the meeting adjourned at 10:00 p.m.
