HomeMy WebLinkAboutFIRE & POLICE COMMISSION - 02/26/1996 - MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE HELD ON February 26, 1996 Acting Chairman Alan J. Shapiro called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Municipal Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove village, and noted for the record that the following were present: Alan J. Shapiro, DDS, and Ted E. Thompson. The Fire and Police Commissioners, Alan J. Shapiro and Ted E. convene at 7:45 p.m. for a Public Hearing with Police Officer Patrick Hayes, his wife and attorney, Joseph Mazone. By a motion made by Dr. Shapiro and seconded by Ted Thompson the hearing was continued until April 22, 1996. The hearing adjourned at 7:50 p.m. (See attached minutes) Chairman Bantner arrived at 8:00 p.m. EXECUTIVE SESSION The Commissioners then convene to interview two(2) One Year Probationary Firefighters Douglas E. Brammer and Lance R. Harris, whose status were changed to permanent firefighters effective March 13, 1996. PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES Dr. Charles Boyajian $ 830.00 for Medical Exams of Geroge Burger Matthew Reidy at $415 ea. O'Brien the Florist 65.95 Flowers for Atty. Felice's wife, Linda who passed away 1/1/96. Total of Bills $ 895.95 It was moved by Dr. Shapiro and seconded by Ted Thompson that the Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by acclamation; whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried. NEW BUSINESS None CORRESPONDENCE 1. Two(2) written Reprimands issued by the Chief of Police to Police Officers one on January 30, 1996 and one on February 12, 1996. One for Failure to operate Village vehicle in a safe and prudent manner, or to obey related traffic laws and the other was for failure to be prompt for duty assignment including roll call and court appearance. 2. Memo from Fire Chief MacArthur requesting to meet with the Commissioners to discuss Firefighter Eligibility List and the next testing. The Commissioners will meet with the Chief at the next regularly scheduled meeting scheduled for March 25, 1996 3. Memo from Deputy Chief Schmidt to Assistant Village Manager Ray Rummel asking permission for the Police Department to use the Internet to advertise the upcoming Police Exam. 4. Copy of the Memo from the Assistant Village Manager giving the Police Department permission to use the Internet only during working hours to advertise the Police Exam. 5. The Winter 1996 publication from the Illinois Professional Firefighters Association The Size Up. 6. A survey from the Illinois Fire & Police Commissioners Association on the Module V - The Oral Interview. 7. Newspaper article on Michigan trial of Local Officer Delayed printed in the Elk Grove Daily Herald on January 25, 1996. OLD BUSINESS None PENDING None Next meeting is scheduled March 25, 1996, at the Charles J. Zettek Municipal Building, 901 Wellington Avenue at 8:00 p.m. ADJOURNMENT It was moved by Dr. Shapiro and seconded by Ted Thompson that the meeting be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation; whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried and the meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Alan J.
