THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONh"K S19
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON January 27, 1997
Chairman Bantner called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m. in the
Charles J. Zettek Municipal Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove
Village, and noted for the record that the following were present:
Chairman Gayle B. Bantner, Alan J. Shapiro, DDS and Ted E. Thompson.
It was moved by Ted Thompson and seconded by Dr. Shapiro that the
minutes of December 4, 1996 be approved as submitted and that the Board
dispense with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by
acclamation; whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
Peter Felice Retainer for the Months $ 320. 00

It was moved by Ted Thompson and seconded by Dr. Shapiro that the
Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was
voted upon by acclamation; whereupon the Chairman declared the motion
carried.
NEW BUSINESS
Discussed memo request from the Fire Chief briefly on Lieutenants
test and what the Fire Department would like for the Fire and Police
Commission to consider. No decision made.
Commissioners instructed that two(2) applicants from both Fire &
Police be sent background investigation forms to be completed. There
is one position in each department open. Police next academy is April
7th and next academy for Fire is in June and to notify neNt person on
the Police eligibility list that a polygraph exam will be scheduled,
and an oral interview set for February 24, 1997 at 8:30 p.m.
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Written Reprimand issued by the Chief of Police on December 19,
1996 to an officer for failure to remain awake on duty.
2. Written Reprimand issued by the Chief of Police on December 16,
1996 to an officer for inefficiency or incompetency in the
performance of duty.
3. Written Reprimand issued by the Chief of Police on December 16,
1996 to an officer for failure to adequately secure, use, care and
maintain Department property or equipment.
4. Written Reprimand issued by the Chief of Police on January 13, 1997
to an officer for failure to appear in court when required or
scheduled.
5. Written Reprimand issued by the Chief of Police on January 20, 1997
to an officer for failure to be prompt for duty assignment
including roll call and court appearance.
6. Notice of Suspension issued by the Chief of Police on December 18,
1996 to an officer for two(2) days for making a false report,
written or oral and failure to follow medical roll procedures.
7. Letter from Fire Chief MacArthur to Firefighter Edwin W. Colman
thanking Firefighter Colman for his years of dedicated service to
the Fire Department and his retirement effective Thursday, November
7, 1996.
8. Letter from Firefighter Applicant George Ganas asking the Fire and
Police Commissioners for information pertaining to his failure on
the Firefighter Multiple Orals.
9. Two letters from the Illinois Fire & Police Recruitment
Administration offering their services for hiring and promotions
and their cost.
11. Letter from Firefighter Harvey R. Speiden to the Fire & Police
Commissioners announcing his disability retirement effective
December 8, 1996.
12. Copy of letter from Fire Chief MacArthur to Harvey R. Speiden
thanking him for his years of dedication to the Fire Department.
13. Copy of memo from Fire Chief MacArthur to Village Manager Gary
Parrin requesting to fill the vacancy on the Fire Department
created by Firefighter Speidens retirement.
14. Memo to Fire & Police Commission Chairman Gayle Bantner reference
the upcoming Lieutenants examination and suggestions for that test.

PENDING
Arranging for two (2) one year probationary firefighters interviews
with the Commissioners on February 29, 1997 at 8: 00 p.m.
Planning the Lieutenants examination.
Next meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 29, 1997 at 800
p.m.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Ted Thompson and seconded by Dr. Shapiro that the
meeting be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation;
whereupon the Acting Chairman declared the motion carried and the
meeting adjourned at 9:30 p.m.
