THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS

Chairman Bantner called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Municipal
Building, 901 Wellington Avenue,Elk Grove Village,and noted for the record that the following were
present: Chairman Gayle B. Bantner, Alan J. Shapiro,DDS and Ted E. Thompson.
It was moved by Ted Thompson and seconded by Dr. Shapiro that the minutes of April 28, 1997
be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense with the reading thereof. The motion was voted
upon by acclamation;whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried.
EXECUTIVE SESSION:
The Commissioners convened to Executive Session to hold two(2)oral interviews with Firefighter
candidates Guy A. Berry, III and George G. Eilers.
Guy A. Berry, III was interviewed first,after a lengthily interview the Fire and Police
Commissioners thanked Mr. Berry and informed him that he did not meet the standards for the Elk Grove
Fire Department and wished him well in his endeavors.
The Commissioners then interviewed Mr. George G. Eilers, after a lengthily interview the Fire and
Police Commissioners asked Mr. Eilers to wait outside for a moment. They had a short discussion and
called Mr. Eilers back and offered him the position as a Firefighter pending passing the medical exam
which was scheduled for May 14th.
The Commissioners then reconvened their regular meeting.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
Theodore Polygraph Service Two(2)billings for
four Firefighter Applicants at$70 each $ 280.00
Applicants: Wm. Tranchita&Anthony Ford
Guy Berry&George Eilers
Federal Express 15.81
Total of Bills $ 295.81
It was moved by Ted Thompson and seconded by Dr. Shapiro that the Board authorize the
disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by acclamation;whereupon the
Chairman declared the motion carried.
NEW BUSINESS
Commissioners instructed Evelyne Layton to call next two Police Applicants on Eligibility List to
see if they were interested in continuing the testing proccss for Police Officer with Elk Grove.
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Copy of memo to the Village Manager from Chief of Police requesting vacancy created by Officer
Watts resignation be filled.
2. Copy of Officer Watts resignation to the Police Chief,dated April 30, 1997.
3. Notice of Suspension dated May 1, 1997 issued by the Chief of Police to an Officer for failure to obey
Department orders concerning other employment,occupation,or profession.

The Fire Lieutenants scheduling of Multiple Orals tentatively set for September 23, 1997..
Next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 24, 1997 at 8:00 p.m.
The Commissioners Chairman Bantner and Dr. Shapiro wish Ted Thompson much luck on his
new venture as a Zoning Board of Appeals member starting May 14th. They such enjoyed working with
Ted.
On Tuesday,June 24, 1997,Bob Goldsmith will return to the Fire and Police Commission.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Ted Thompson and seconded by Dr. Shapiro that the meeting be adjourned. The
motion was voted upon by acclamation;whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried and the
meeting adjourned at 10:00 p.m.
