Zettek Municipal Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following were present: Chairman Gayle B. Bantner, Alan J. Shapiro, DDS and H. Robert Goldsmith, others attending were Peter Felice, Attorney and Ted E. Thompson. It was moved by Bob Goldsmith and seconded by Dr. Shapiro that the minutes of May 12, 1997 be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation; whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried. At this time Chairman Bantner interrupted the meeting to present Peter Felice with his twenty(20) years Service Award from the Village and to thank him for his service and time. The Commissioners then reconvened their regular meeting. PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES Daily Herald $ 20.00 Change of F/P Commission meeting. Dr. Charles Boyajian 830.00 For Two(2) Firefighter Medical Exam George Eilers $415.00 William Tranchita $415.00 Police Consultants, Inc. 2, 150. 00 For Fire Lts Written Exam Peter Felice 320.00 Retain fees for April & May 97 Reddy Service 107.74 For Fire/Police Stationary Theodore Polygraph Service 140 00 Polygraphs for Police Candidates: Brian Kleszynski & Kelly Sweeney Total of Bills $ 3,567.74 It was moved by Dr. Shapiro and seconded by Bob Goldsmith that the Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by acclamation; whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried. CORRESPONDENCE 1. Notice of Suspension issued by the Chief of Police on May 5, 1997 to an officer for one(1) day for disobedience of an Order, written or oral. 2. Written Reprimand issued by the Chief of Police on May 23, 1997 to an officer for failure to adequately secure, use, care for, and maintain property or equipment. 3. Letter from Fire Lieutenant Leonard Kopinski advising of his retirement effective June 9, 1997. 4. Copy of letter from Fire Chief MacArthur to Fire Lieutenant Kopinski thanking him for his years with the Village. 5. Letter from Illinois Fire & Police Recruitment Administration, Inc. offering their services for Fire & Police Testing. 6. Copy of survey conducted by the Fire Department on fees charged for testing. 7. Copy of memo from the Fire Chief to the Village Manager asking for a Firefighter since Fire Lieutenant Kopinski's retirement with Lieutenants exam in progress this would cause a shortage, request okayed by the Manager. 8. Copy of article from Law and Order magazine reference the Importance of Law Enforcement Education & The Forecast for Police Employment is a Matter of Degrees. 9. Notice of Suspension issued on June 12, 1997 by the Chief of Police to an officer for one(1) day for failure to appear in court when required or scheduled. 10. Another copy of article from Law and Order magazine reference the Importance of Law Enforcement Education and the Forecast for Police Employment is a Matter of Degrees. 11. Two(2) Written Reprimands issued on June 17, 1997 by the Chief of Police to two(2) officers for the same offense, failure to be prompt for duty assignment, including roll call and court appearance. NEW BUSINESS The Commissioners discuss the articles on Matter of Degrees at length with the thought to add to their fact sheet when testing that the Fire and Police Commission will require college education in next testing. The Commissioners ask Peter Felice, Fire and Police Commission Attorney to do research before they make a final decision. The Commissioners will advise Village Managers Office, Fire and Police Departments they will be raising standards on education required. OLD BUSINESS None PENDING The Fire Lieutenants scheduling of Multiple Orals tentatively changed to September 30, 1997. Schedule appointments for six(6) month probationary review for Firefighter Ronald C. Naida for July 22, 1997 at 8 p.m. Schedule appointments for second oral interview for Police candidates and Firefighter candidates starting at 6:30 p.m. for half hour each. Next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 22, 1997 at 8:00 p.m. ADJOURNMENT It was moved by Bob Goldsmith and seconded by Dr. Shapiro that the meeting be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation; whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried and the meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Alan J.
