MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON SEPTEMBER 30, 1997
Chairman Bantner called the meeting to order at 8:50 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek
Municipal Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record
that the following were present: Chairman Gayle B. Bantner, Alan J. Shapiro and H.
Robert Goldsmith.
It was moved by Dr. Shapiro and seconded by H. Robert Goldsmith that the
minutes of the August 26, 1997 be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense with
the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation; whereupon the Chairman
declared the motion carried.
H. Robert Goldsmith made a request of the Secretary to send a reminder to him as
to the upcoming October dates and times of the Individual Fire Lieutenant Oral Interviews
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
The Signery - Two (2) signs: - (1) No Smoking and (2) Fire and Police
Commission Office-to be placed at the new Fire and Police Commission offices located
next to Meeting Room E at the Charles J. Zettek Municipal Building.
Meal Reimbursement for Dinner for the Fire and Police Commissioners and the
Secretary for the date of September 30, 1997.
It was moved by Dr. Shapiro and seconded by H. Robert Goldsmith that the Board
authorize the disbursement of funds in the amount of$25.00 to The Signery Company . It
was further moved by Dr. Shapiro and seconded by H. Robert Goldsmith to hold the Meal
Reimbursement Request Form in the amount of$22.90 until a later date when other
upcoming Meal Reimbursement requests will be submitted at one time in order for one
reimbursement check to be issued. The motion was voted upon by acclamation;
whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried.
It was moved by Chairman Bantner to enter in Executive Session to discuss the six
(6)month review of probationary Police Officer Johnnell Williams. It was noted by
Chairman Bantner that Officer Johnnell Williams has performed to an acceptable level as
of this date and will continue to have his progress monitored

CORRESPONDENCE
1. A letter from Firefighter Douglas E. Brammer advising that he wishes to discontinue
consideration for the Fire Lieutenant selection process due to family emergencies.
2. A notice from that Illinois Professional Firefighters Association- 1997 Pension Seminar
which is being held on Friday,November 7, 1997. It was noted that Chairman Bantner,
Dr. Shapiro, and H. Robert Goldsmith did not have an interest in attending.
3. Status report of probationary police officer Johnnell Williams.
4. Address changes for police officers Michael Muti, and Steven Prindle.
5. Notice of a(1) day suspension for a police officer for exercising poor
judgment in the pursuit of a motorcyclist and failure to obey related traffic laws.
6. Letter from Deputy Chief Larry L. W. Hammar explaining the changes in the Fair
Credit Reporting Act.
7. A request from Firefighter William A. Knipp which was already acted upon and
approved to allow him to change his group oral interview time from 2:00 p.m.
to 7:00 p.m. with Firefighter John B. Fordon.
8. A letter from Robert Arnold to the Fire and Police Commission with an
attachment letter addressed to George B. Knickerbocker requesting that he
be reinstated to the Police Department. It was noted by Chairman Bantner
that this matter was taken out of the Fire and Police Commissioners hands
and given to George B. Knickerbocker the Village Attorney for handling.
9. Two(2)Commission Cards;one for Kelly L. Sweeney, Police Officer and
the second one for Michael A. Pestel Firefighter. These cards have been
signed by Chairman Bantner and Secretary Shapiro and are ready for
lamination and distribution to the employees.
NEW BUSINESS
College requirements for Fire and Police candidates. It was decided to discuss at a
later date. Union contracts need to be looked in to as far as if there are stipulations
pertaining to this requirement.

The next meeting is set for Tuesday, October 28, 1997 at 8:00 p.m.
Individual Oral Interviews are set for Tuesday, October 7th beginning at 2:00 p.m.
Tuesday, October 14, 1997 beginning at 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday, October 28, 1997
beginning at 2:30 p.m.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Dr. Shapiro and seconded by Bob Goldsmith that the meeting be
adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation; whereupon the Chairman declared
the motion carried and the meeting adjourned at 9:30 p.m.
