THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON OCTOBER 28, 1997
Chairman Bantner called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek
Municipal Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record
that the following were present: Chairman Gayle B. Bantner, Alan J. Shapiro and H.
Robert Goldsmith.
It was moved by Dr. Shapiro and seconded by H. Robert Goldsmith that the minutes of the
September 30, 1997 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense with
the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation; whereupon the Chairman
declared the motion tamed.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
It was moved by Dr. Shapiro and seconded by H. Robert Goldsmith that the Board
authorize the disbursement of funds in the amount of 5320.00 to Peter A. Felice, Attorney
at Law for his retainer fee for August and September. 1997. It was further moved by Dr.
Shapiro and seconded by H. Robert Goldsmith to reimburse Chairman Bantner for meal
expenses incurred for the meetings held on September 30, 1997, October 7, 1997, and
October 28, 1997 in the amount of$66.57.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
The Board entered into Executive Session to tally the score and make up the new eligibility
list for Fire Lieutenants.
All final scores for Fire Lieutenants will be sent to Pat Droschak on Wednesday, October
29, 1997 or Thursday, October 30, 1997 for typing and for posting on Monday, November
3, 1997. The original eligibility list will be placed in the file, and the list will be posted on
the bulletin board in the atrium and a copy will be sent to Chief MacArthur.
CORRESPONDENCE
I. A copy of the new Police Officer contract from Deputy Chief Lary Hamman
This copy should be placed in the Police file for future use if needed.
2. The Illinois Fire& Police Commissioners Association renewal form. Pat was
directed to complete the form and submit before December 31, 1997 and include
a check in the amount of$195.00. It was moved by Dr. Shapiro to authorize
payment for this renewal and seconded by H. Robert Goldsmith.
3. A copy of the longevity points that should be added to the Fire Lieutenants
applicants scores.

4. Two letters that were sent to two Firefighter applicants advising that they were
eliminated from further consideration for Fire Lieutenant due to the fact that they
were absent from their interview.
5. Various reprimands from Chief Engelbrecht advising that various officers received
letters of reprimand for the following reasons:
a. Being 35 minutes late for Misdemeanor Court
b. Missing equipment from a squad.
c. Missing Misdemeanor Court
d. Retention of a portable radio for personal use.
e. Missing Misdemeanor Court
6. Letter from Chief MacArthur regarding the subject of Federal Age Discrimination
Employment Act exemption which should be taken into consideration for the
next testing for Firefighter sometime before the next eligibility list expires in
December, 1998. Pat was directed to contact Pete Felice and check into this
Act.

The next meeting is set for Tuesday, November 25, 1997 at 8:00 p.m.
At this meeting the probationary review of one(1)one-year Firefighter and two(2)six-
month Firefighter's will be considered.

ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Dr. Shapiro and seconded by Bob Goldsmith that the meeting be
adjourned. The motion was voted upon acclamation; whereupon the Chairman declared
the motion carred and the meeting adjourned at 9:25 p.m.
