THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON NOVEMBER 25, 1997
Chairman Bantner called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek
Municipal Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record
that the following were present: Chairman Gayle B. Bantner, Alan J. Shapiro and H.
Robert Goldsmith.
It was moved by Dr. Shapiro and seconded by H. Robert Goldsmith that the minutes of the
October 28, 1997 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense with the
reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Chairman
declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
It was moved by H. Robert Goldsmith and seconded by Chairman Bantner that the
following invoices be paid:
Reddy Service $108.33 Fire and Police Letterhead
Police Consultants, Inc. $522.00 29 Multiple Interview
Assessment Reports for Fire
Lieutenant Testing
EXECUTIVE SESSION
The Board entered into Executive Session to review three(3)probationary employees:
Ronald C. Naida (1 yr.)
George Eilers (6 mos.)
William Tranchita(6 mos.)
CORRESPONDENCE
1. A three (3) day suspension for a Police Officer for failing to be present for Court. This
particular Police Officer has also had excessive absences from court since being hired.
2. A written reprimand for a Police Officer for being absent for Felony Court.
3. A request from Chief Engelbrecht to increase the Police Officer classification
authorized strength from 77 to 78 Police Officers.
4. A notice of retirement from Commander John Bantner which is to be effective
December 12, 1997.

5. A notice of resignation from Firefighter Sindelar which is to be effective November
30, 1997.
6. An appointment letter for Mark Sellers who was appointed to the position of
Fire Lieutenant effective December 1, 1997.
7. Notice of canceled meeting for December 30, 1997.
8. A fax from the City of Rockford requesting verification on an applicant whether
or not he applied here and details relating to the failure of the oral interview.
Pat was asked by Chairman Bantner to check into the files and obtain more
information.
PENDING
Letter to Attorney Felice inquiring as to the Federal Age Discrimination Employment Act.
Attorney Felice has advised that we do not have to hire any applicant over the age of 35.
NEW BUSINESS
Re: Police Candidates
The Secretary was instructed that in the future when trying to make contact with an
applicant-if no contact can be made at the address and/or phone number listed on the card,
then to go on to the next applicant. It was further noted by Chairman Bantner that one of
requirements of all candidates is to inform the Fire and Police Commissioners office if an
address or phone number change takes place.
Polygraph Testing - It was noted that polygraph testing should be scheduled with
Theodore Polygraph located at 4415 W. Harrison Street, Hillside, IL at telephone
number 708 449-5020. Hunter and Associates should not be used and to cancel the
appointments that were set.
The Secretary was advised to check with Deputy Chief Hammar to check on the status of
the background investigations for the (3)three applicants. She was further instructed to
check with Dr. Boyajian's office to schedule one (1) medical for the week of December 8,
1997 and having the results by December 16, 1997. Expected date of hire is January 5,
1997 and January 12, 1997 is the beginning date of the academy.
The Secretary was asked to call Chairman Bantner if there were any questions.

None
The next meeting is set for Tuesday, January 27, 1997 at 8:00 p.m.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Dr. Shapiro and seconded by Bob Goldsmith that the meeting be
adjourned. The motion was voted upon acclamation whereupon Chairman Bantner
declared the motion carried and the meeting adjourned at 10:30 p.m.
